question about subs and amps

hi i was thinking of getting 2 12" MTX t9512-44. they are 1000w RMS each and dual 4ohms. i was wondering if i can use a mono amp that is 2000x1 to power both subs or do i have to get 2 mono amps, one for each sub, with 1000w each. also since the subs are dual 4ohms do i look for an amp with 1000w at 4ohms or an amp 1000w at 2ohms. thanks in advance for your help.

you can use 1 mono amp, not sure about the ohms though.

You final load will be 4 ohms no matter how you wire the subs. So, you are going to need 1,000 @ 4ohms. That will put 500 watts to each sub. The better choice would be to find dual 2 ohm subs. Then you can have a final load of 2 ohms. Most sub amps will put out twice the power into 2 ohms as 4. You could find an amp that would do 500 @ 4 and 1,000 @ 2. Or that same amp that would do 1,000 @ 4 might do 2,000 @ 2. The exception is the JL amps. They put the same amount of power from 1.8-4 ohms.

also i believe that if you bridge a stereo amp in to mono mode, amp will only see half the impedence.... i don't think that's the case for mono amps, so that shouldn't be a problem

correct me if im wrong but if you use dual 2 ohm subs, if run paralleled, they will be 1 ohm, and the amp will see half that, or 1/2 ohm????

fsttyms1....If you have a pair of Dual 2 ohm subs, you can do it two ways. Wire each sub in parallel and then wire the two subs together in series or wire each sub in series and then wire the two subs together parallel. Either way, you end up with a two ohm final load.

thanx for all your help. would it be better to run both subs off 1 amp, or would it be better to have 1 amp for each sub, does it make a difference?
