Question about speaker polarity

Alright, I was putting the stock speakers back in, and when I had the aftermarket ones put in, the ends needed to be cutoff. I did not get them from the install shop, so I am wondering what is the negative side? Is is the one with the black dot on the back of the speaker? Or is that the positive? Thanks

So here's a quick and semi-crude way to tell what the polarity is of any cone or woofer style speaker. (Tweeters do not apply) Take a small battery like a "c" or "d" cell and e-tape wires to each end. Touch the wires to the connectors of the speakers and watch what direction the cone moves. If the cone moves outward, then your in-phase with the battery's polarity. If the cones moves inward, then the polarity is reversed. Hope this helps.
