I have a new headunit for my 1997 TL. (My 3rd)
Some background info:
The 1st gen TL has TWO wiring harnesses. One harness is for 6 speakers. The second harness is for a set of midrange speakers that are next to the rearview mirror. They run at 8 ohms. Obviously only the main harness is going into the new headunit.
To get the dome speakers to work, I bought two resistors at 8 ohms, spliced them to the rear speakers. I don't hear those dome speakers at all now. So the soundstage is lower and isn't "surrounding" the interior with music.
I'm wondering if that was a mistake. Instead, should I have just spliced them to the 6.5 speakers in the front doors?

Sure
For the second (blue) wiring harness, you cut the wires (keep the harness for later if you wish). The wires are all green. One is Red/Green, the other is Orange/Green. Those are the positive wires. Hook those up to the resistors (I bought mine at Radio Shack for 2 dollars each). Just be care to cover up all your work with lots of electrical tape. Finally, connect the other end of the resistors to the rear wires. It'll sound great with excellent front/rear balance.
I think I know why the dome speakers didn't work, I noticed a negative wire lost part of its tape. No fuses blown nor any other issues thankfully.
