Question about nav(i)

Most of the time, I would like to drive around with the LCD screen completely off. Is it easy to turn off (just 1 button)? Can you adjust the CD player, A/C, and radio without it on, or does it come back on every time you mess with those controls?

You hit the "Set-Up" button; then, on the screen, press "Display - Off."
Or, using voice, say "Set-Up," then "Display off."

You can do the CD, radio, A/C etc. without the screen on.

Can i ask a followup question? If you turn the display off, then you turn the car off and back on, does the display stay off, or do you have to turn if off every time?

TIA!

Lucky you, here I am again!

Regardless of whether you turn the display off, here's what happens each next time you start up the car:
The screen comes on, and there's an "OK" button to hit if you want to do something on it. If you don't hit the "OK," the screen automatically goes off after about a couple of minutes. BTW you might be able to make it go off sooner by doing the "Display Off" thing; I'm not sure. (I'm pretty sure, though, that if you want to do it by voice, you'd have to hit the "OK" on the screen first.)

My screen goes off within 10 seconds if the OK button is not pressed. So for all practical purposes the screen is never on unless I turn it on while driving. I never have to start off by turning the screen off, it shuts down by the time I have it in gear.

Oh and one more thing. To turn it off by voice takes one step, not two. You can say "display off" from the map view bypassing the setup page.

There is also no "screen saver" with this navigation unit. I have an 02 MDX that after you hit the "off" button you still have to shutdown on the screen saver window. This is a much better design.

I wonder how much extra phirenze had to pay for that special feature?
