Question about changing out stock headunit

I have a 03 NBP TL-S and i just received my kenwood x911 dvd tv unit. I took it to a stereo shop to get it installed but they said that there are no kits available to change out the headunit. They could have made a custom one but i dont want them to screw it up at my expense. Does anyone know where i can can get a headunit kit to fit into the dash of a 03 tl-s??
Thank you

You won't find a kit for this car.......at least amongst the big boys of kits....Metra, American International, Schoche..........maybe one of the smaller kit companys but I doubt......your best bet is to source the best shop in your area and they will be able to make a kit and make it look good.....sure you'll pay a bit for the job....but you get what you pay for.

Oh and man thats a nice unit...I only wish I had bought one when I had access to them at $1200 a pop Secondly their DVD nav unit that is available is quite nice...not to mention you can add Sirius radio to it...now theres a nice system.....DVD, TV Tunder, CD, Sirius and DVD Navi...and touchscreen to boot......good luck with your install.

I emailed a couple places, but only one said it was in the early stages of development. He said to check back at the end of the yr to check on its status. I'll dig up the email of who it was.

Has anyone look into placing an aftermarket unit on the non-navi using the existing climate control location? I have no idea if it would work but it's just a thought.

Is this possible?

Replace the dash cover with the one made for the nav. I know work has to be done with wiring the climate control system but this way the stock stereo can be left alone. A cover of some sort can be custom to cover any aftermaket stereo or LCD screen.

vlam yes that is possible but not practical.... i know someone on this board did that a while back you might want to do a search for it.... but i know i checked into it when i bought my car and the expense in doing it just wasnt worth it cuz for the price it would cost to have this done you could trade in your tl for one with navi and probably still have some money in the bank....
