Post Question about amp install

I wired my amp and subs but the amp is not turning on. I wired the remote to the blue turn on wire etc. Could it be because I'm using 18 guage wire for the power and ground??? WOuld using a 4 or 8 guage wire fix My problem??? I'm running a 600 watt amp to push My 2 JL 10's BTW.

Sounds to me like the remote turn on lead isn't gettin' enough current. If this amp is just for subs, I would wire the remote lead to a seperate switch, this way you can turn it on and off at will and not always have bass playing.

If you are using the stock amp remote wire to turn on your aftermarket amp, chances are, IT WON'T. You need to put a relay in line with this to supply enough power to your aftermarket amp.

Uhh i would be suprised if you can find a relay that the factory head unit can turn on. the factory head unit has a very low current output. you will need a transistor to boost the current. damn i have already posted about this before and nobody listens!
look back about november-december for my post on the subject i had it all spelled out and i don't feel like typing it all over again.

I have a low current relay for my Varad LEDs and if the factory alarm lead energizes the relay, then the factory remote lead will.

The blue wire works for me, it turns on my Orion amp no problem.

So hooking the remote wire directly to the battery with a switch will work??? Also, what is a relay? How much and what kind? Where would I be able to pick one up?

Yes, wiring directly to the battery with a switch will work, but you wil have to remember to turn it on/off everytime you drive your car. Also, you will get a turn-on "thump" sound from your subs if you do it that way.

A Bosch relay is about $5. Basically, since your factory remote wire does not have enough current to turn on your amps, the relay will let you add more current to the wire and that should be able to turn on your amps. I'd go with the relay route rather than a switch, so everytime you turn on your radio, it will turn on the amps automatically.

Any car audio/alarm install shop should be able to sell and tell you how to wire the relay.

It is very simple, I belive there are 5 terminals on the relay, you will only be using 4 of them. One is for power, one is for ground. One is for remote in and the other goes to the remote turn-on to your amp.
