Quality of Amp Rankings ?

Can someone Shoot me a little Primer on Amps and what to look for ? I need an Amp to Power one 12 Inch Sub ( MTX 8000 ).

I know there are plenty out there, and yes I do have a price range in mind, but for now if you could give me a few pointers on what to look for as far as quality.

And if you would like--and I know the rating is probably as subjective as can be--list your Rankings 1,2,3,4. For Quality.

Looking for amp in 400-800 Watt Range. Mono Preferably.

I have the same sub and you need tons of power!! Right now I have it hooked up to a '01 RF 360.2 with a cap. The amp is underrated at 360W RMS and the sub needs more more more. I would say the RMS should be al least 500W. Don't go by the stats for that sub and power the hell out of it!!!!!!!

I hear you. Truthfully I would get a different sub. That sub needs a lot of power to sound good and really is made for heavy bass. If you want to keep it but not make your ears bleed, I would hook it up to a big amp and a crossover. That way you can at least control it a little better.
