Putting on dynamat

I want to put some sound dampening on my door. I have a 2002 tl type-s. I took of the door panel to put the cascade material on the inside of the door and noticed that the door was already lined with a thin white material. Do i just put the cascade on top of this? Do I remove this and put the cascade on the metal? And if I do put the cascade on the metal, do I have to put the white material back on top of the cascade?

What the hell is this material anyway? Please help so I could properly dampen my doors.

The white plastic material is just a simple vapor and moisture barrier. You do need to remove it to put the dynamat right against the metal. Putting it back on is really your option. Some people say you have to put it back on and others say you do not. I personally have never put one back on and have never, ever had a moisture problem. But, I use enough damping that I cover almost every hole that could allow moisture back in. Hope that helps and Merry Christmas.

I would put the white material back on. Look at it this way, it's not that hard and it's an extra layer of protection from the elements.

would adding dynamat lessen the amount of wind/road/tire noise that makes its way into the cabin. Any reccomendations apart from dynamat.

yeah, adding dynamat definately lessens the amount of outside noise, although i would think that to REALLY make your ride quiet you would probably need to layer the floor of the car.

apart from dynamat, there is cascade, which is what i'm using. for my rear doors i might go with fatmat....its cheaper.

There are differen't "weights" or grades so depending on what level of dampening you choose, it can weigh different amounts.
