proper sound dampening

ok, i wanna dampen my car, basically i'm going to put some cascade sheets on the doors and trunk, then some fatmat on the ground. this is very basic, and i know they sell dampening liquids and pastes, would you guys i recommend using these (do they make that big a difference), if so where exactly would i use it (certain cracks and crevices in the car)

and also, are there any general areas that i should make SURE i dampen real good, because it makes a difference (for example, should i make sure to dampen the corner of the trunk where the taillight is, or mabye even double layer or use liquid dampener, because it gives off a lot of noise?)

uncleb, check out this site Quiet Car. They compare this with dynamat. Of course you're gonna have biased opinion as to which dampens better. I know for a fact the more dynamat you use, the more weight you add to the vehicle.
