How does one program the phonebook with names/numbers for bluetooth cell phone compatibility?

Look in the small quickstart guide you have. The instructions are easy to follow.

The phonebook in the car and the phonebook in the phone are separate and are not linked. All that bluetooth enables you to do is dial a number, call a name in the car's phone book, answer an incoming call and use call waiting (I have no idea if conference calling is possible). Depending on the phone, you can display the signal and battery strength, incoming phone numbers, roaming status and numbers that are being dialed on the MID and the display above the navi. You cannot use bluetooth to dial a number that is only in the phone's phonebook.

However, programming the car's phonebook is easy. Press the telephone button and say "phonebook". Then hit the button again and say "save". Hit the button again and say the name you are trying to save. The phone will repeat the recorded name back to you. Then hit the button again and state the number. I forget the next prompt but it is to finalize the phone number. That is all it takes. You can use the cancel button at any time to go back one step.

When you are inputting the numbers speak clearly and at a normal pace. Do not state the numbers slowly and deliberately as this tends to cause problems.

Of course, the procedure is fully and simply explained in the manual.
