Problems With Sound System
Okay, so I've just swapped into my car aftermarket 6x9's and 6 1/2s. It ran fine for a couple of weeks, but just a couple of days ago, I noticed a crackling noise coming from my right speaker. I then played with the balance and noticed that the right channel is significantly lower in volume than the left.
At first I thought there might've been a short where the speaker is so I removed it and put some electric tape around all conductive areas. I put it back together and had the same results. I then went and faded the audio to the rears only and played with the balance then. I noticed that my rear right channel is also like that.
What do you guys suppose is the problem? An odd short somewhere in the system or that the factory amp is giving out on me?

Since your problem is with the right channels it is likely your HU that is bad. Try switching to another source like FM CD and see if you still have the problem.
The system works like this,
The stereo left and right channels are split in the HU to produce four channels, LF RF LR RR. The HU outputs the four channels to the amp. The amp takes the four separate channels and splits the fronts into door and tweeter feeds that are amplified by one of the two output driver ICs. The same thing happens to the rear except that it is door and SW.
So it works like this.
If on side is out then the amp isn’t seeing the feed from the HU
If just the front or rear are out then it is likely the amp but it still could be the HU if the failure is at or after the split to 4 ch.
In your case the amp is not seeing a good RF and RR signal from the HU.

Every indication points to your HU as being bad, of course since I did not actually test it I don’t know for sure. If you get the harness and a new amp and you still have the problem do you plan to get your HU repaired or replace it with another factory unit?
I would hate to sell you a harness and then have you go with an aftermarket deck.
