Thumbs down Problems with autotoys.com?

I ordered the OEM compatible 10-disk Alpine CD changer + adapter from autotoys.com over a week ago, after confirming that it was supposedly "in stock". It still hasn't shipped, and the best information I can get from them is "thank you for your patience".

Has anyone else had trouble with Autotoys? I can't find a phone number for them anywhere on their site or in their emails - are they legit?

Thanks....

Do you have a 99/00/01 TL? Cause if you do, there is no 10 disk OEM compatible changer available for our car. Maybe it was the 6 disk one CHM-S620

autotoys claims that both the 6-disk and 10-disk changers are compatible with the factory radio, you just have to press "6, 1", "6, 2," etc. to get to the extra disks. I don't know if it is true or not, but I took their word for it and ordered.... I just wish that they would send it so I can find out!

I just went out to my car and tried something.

If what they are saying to do is to hit 5 and then 2 to get to the 10th disk, that won't work. The head unit thinks you wanna select disk 5, then figures you want disk 2.

Unless they are telling you to hold both buttons down, which is kinda hard to do.

Make sure you can return it if it doesn't work.

BTW, what brand is it. Like AcuraTL says, Alpine doesn't make a 10 disk and they're the only ones that are a direct plug-in to the OEM deck.

Thanks for the information... Here is a pointer to the autotoys site:
http://store.autotoys.com/cgi-bin/wfp53024.storefront

I re-read the description of how it is supposed to work - they say that you press "6" and then "1" for disk 7.

I was originally looking for the 6-disk changer after a search led me to these forums, but decided that it was worth it for the extra 4 (if it works!)

I'm having some second thoughts, though.... It is troubling that they would lie about stock availability and then be evasive when I ask about shipment. If I get it and get it working I'll let you know.

Neil, the reason that it might not work in your car is that you dont have a 10 disk you only have a 6 disk. Maybe when you hook up a 10 disk it works? oh well just rambling here.
mwlinder, keep us posted.

Keep us informed if it works. I didn't think you could do it. But hey, if you get it to work, cool.

I ordered from them before and they shipped it pretty quickly.

Alpine does not make a 10 disc changer, so it'll either be a Sony, Pioneer or Kenwood.

Well, audiotoys.com finally came through with the changer. I've installed it and it works fine. The "package" consisted of a Kenwood C717 10-disk changer and the Peripheral HONKEN (honda-kenwood) adapter (www.peripheral-aamp.com). I can play all 10 disks just fine - if you press "6" then "2" quickly it will display and play "Disk 8". For disk 10 it shows a blank (no disk number). Random play, etc. works fine.

Overall, I'm happy with the result, but would not recommend autotoys. No customer service, no way to telephone, and they lied about stock status. They didn't even include pictures/instructions with the package as promised, and the price ($249) was no better than elsewhere (Crutchfield has the C717 for $199, and the HONKEN adapter is $49). So I recommend the hardware, but get it somewhere else!

One other interesting thing: the 10-disk changer fits snugly in the well on the left side of the trunk, so mounting was a breeze. Autotoys told me it wouldn't fit (only the 6-disk changer would fit), but they were wrong about that, too.....

Oh, that sounds really bad. Glad you got it working ok, and it does work. Now I know, should have gotten the Alpine 12 disc, oh well.
