Problem with voltage drop

well first off I have a ho 160 amp alt and big 3 done. have 2 12" dc level 3's powered by a alphasonik pma1200da its been working fine for over a week with a aftermarket hu but the other day when hitting hard at anything below 1500 rpms it is cutting out bad and even when down a bit it sounds like the bass is sticking like your putting the rcas together a buzzing sort. my alt is like a month old and had the batt has been tested to be good it is a stock style I'm saving moneys for a better one. also sometimes the car is sluggish to start after hitting while driving but its only every now and then. I'm gonna have the alt tested and use a multi meter to see voltage drop. Ok thats just to get it started I bought a new batt 900ca's and 770 cca's. The problem was still there. So I put the old batt in the trunk. The problem is now gone. But I am wondering why it just now started. Didnt test the alt maybe I should but I figure it's fine being a month old. Now I guess I am gonna save up and get a kinetik or something for the back as I have heard it's not good to have normal batts in the trunk, is this true???

First off check your alternator just to make sure its still ok, and i recomend either 1 Kinetik HC2000 or 2 HC1400s for the amount of power your pushing. Personally i wouldnt put a normal batt in the trunk but some cars have em there factory and some caddys have em under the back seat

Yea I think tomorrow I am gonna have the alt tested. I've gotta say the 2nd batt really increased the output.

yea think i will im reading mixed reviews about having a batt in the trunk but many cars have em there from factory or under seats. Hell my 74 stingray had in right behind the pass seat but that was way back when

While Kinetik's are sweet (I had one), I enjoy my Powermaster much more. The PM's are monster batteries. Another option (if you can afford it) is an NSB (Northstar Battery). Those things are absolute beasts. In case you're doubting, they are used in most (if not all) of the loudest street class competition cars on the continent. I would know, the defending North American Champ just kicked my ass this weekend... He did a 155.3 was his best run, Street A legal, and a 155.0 legal certified. That's impressive for 1 battery, car off, and 2 10's... There's one on ca.com, if interested, pm me.

Another thing to think about is 1/0 power and ground. If you already have this, do multiple runs of both. That's one of the best ways to keep your voltage up...

Or you could just turn it down so you don't kill your gear... Then when you get the electrical to properly power your setup, then you can add power...

eh can't keep it down lol if the amp frys then no biggie warranty but the subs would suck to fry. but I think going for a kinetik 1600 or so would work ok for now.

There's an NSB group 27 on ca.com for 185. I was going to get it, but I'm going a different route with my system now... It's like 10-12 pages back, but should be too hard to search and find. That, along with good 1/0 + and - wire should pretty well take care of your voltage problems...

A 1400 might fix your problem, but I'd get on some 1/0 wire asap... The added/bigger batts are really just band-aids... If you run them for a long period of time, you're going to end up killing them, and then you're out money that could've been spent fixing what really needed to be fixed, instead of putting band-aids on it.

Yeah, it should be. While you're buying from Knu, I'd order extra. Get enough to do 1 run of + and 1 run of - from front to back. Since you seem to really like your bass, you might want to do multiple runs of each (if you can afford it) so you don't have to go back and re-do everything when you upgrade...

I wouldn't... Their KLM kable is a bottom of the line copper clad aluminum cable... Spend the extra money, do it right, and get multiple runs of Kolosus Flex...

really i figured it was good as I've heard a lot of good stuff about it. Ah well maybe welding cable not sure on the price it is I've seen many heavy systems on ca.com with it. Keep in mind I get tired of stuff fast i will prolly eventually take everything out and sell it all and get focused back on bikes when my endorsement is reinstated but who knows maybe not so not wantin to break the bank but i dunno we shall see
