Problem with my tweeters... help me out

I have Alpine type x components in my doors and just recently the tweeters stopped working. I took the door panel off, checked all the wiring and everything was good but the tweeters still didnt work. I switched the wire on the crossover for the tweeter from the tweeter out to to the tweeter in on both doors and my tweeters started working again. After cranking it up for a couple minutes both tweeters were popping and distorting and now my passenger tweeter isnt working. I dunno what could be wrong.

I'm not sure, but I do know that crossovers will have an overload protection. If they see too much current going to the tweeter, it will cut off the circuit going to them to protect it.

agreed. The Type-X crossovers have a "burn off" circuit that will dissipate any unwanted electricity from overload or clipping. It will usually cut power to the tweeter until it's cooled down enough. Clipping is probably your culprit from the distortion that you hear. What amp are you using?
