Is it possible to replace stock HU while still keeping the navi?

I know its been asked before but I cant find a definitive how to on the subject...Ive searched ALL OVER.

I was told by every damn shop around that I cant replace the HU on my 2002 TL with Navi because I will lose the functionality on my navi....

I have seen and heard of people doing this but I would love to learn how. Doyou lose the navi voice when you replace the stock HU?

any help would greatly be appreciated...

So you're just asking if you can keep the voice of the navi while adding a aftermarket headunit?

Yes I would like to keep the voice but my main question is...

How do I accomplish installing a new HU while keeping the navi functionality intact?

I was told by many shops that i cant swap out another HU without losing the Navi...but I know this can be done...but how??

Who has done this that can help me?

Umm just buy a Metra wiring harness and dash kit and you'll be fine.

I've changed my radio out but went back to stock.. I can't remember if you lose the voice or not but Navi functionality is still there..

Yes, easy..

Misconception

Losing a 6 disc player, losing steering wheel controls etc.. The only reason I swapped was for a flip out tv but that covers part of the Navi and AC controls so I got rid of it.. The only way to go for a tv is a flush mount or Navi conversion..

I just called up Crutchfield and ordered off them.. Nothing is listed on their website but when you call they track it all down for you..

It can be done, we've done it several times - there is an audio output (for the voice) on the navi dvd-rom player itself - we've done them were we've just interrupted those wires with an amplified hands free kit speaker and hooked the mute wire from the navi to the new headunits mute wire to retain that function also.

you dont need the voice, i find it annoying and pointless. i replaced my stock HU and havent missed the voice. The instructions pop up on the screen when you are approaching a turn anyways.

Well, I like my voice. So I want it back. I found a couple VERY old threads where people where able to retain their navi voice. Check it So I bought this . I just received it yesterday, and I will be installing it tomorrow. I will try to find a digi-cam to take pics and make a DIY and I will definitely let you guys know how it turns out. I just installed Dom's tvandnav2go in my car, so I'd rather the chick just cut-in instead of having to flip the switch back and forth.

SUCCESS!!!!!

I have solved the oh so popular question of how to keep the navi voice with an aftermarket radio. I am about to go see Steve Harvey live . So later tonight or tomorrow I will write up a DIY w/ pictures and post it up.

wow thats great news. i hope it uses the front left speaker instead of an extra speaker you have to mount somewhere.
