Poor FM reception

I get poor FM reception for even the best/highest quality station in my area. However, AM doesn't have static.
Is this normal (don't think so) ?

Your FM amplifier may be taost. Have the dealer look into it.

Metallic tint on R window will hurt it.

The FM amp could indeed be toast. ("taost" means that your amp follows the principles of the tao and does not let you tune in popular music that rots your brain...)

Any Class D amp in the trunk?

Do you have metallic tint or an aftermarket amplifier?

I think it's "sort of" common, too. Mine has never been perfect since day one, but it comes and goes, depending on the weather and the station. And the biggest effect I have noticed(as I mentioned in another thread), it seems like you notice it most in the tweeters.

So as a side note for the people that don't realize this, distortion can blow speakers. So if you crank it up and all of sudden here PPSPSSSSSSHHHH, you can blow speakers. So let me reword this so people get my meaning, the distortion can come before the speaker blows, THEN you have perma-distortion (LOL).....

FYI, the service manual has a procedure for poor-FM-reception complaints...

Common indeed. Mine is variable - sometimes I can pick up signals from Mars, but other times I'll lose WHYY in the middle of Center City

Window integrated antennae never, in my experience, seem to do as well as the old metal stick ones...except when it comes to automatic car washes....

My Two Cents

I have a 2000 accord with the in-glass antenna and the reception is better than any car I have ever riden in, including aftermarket decks. I have my new TSX as well and the fm reception is horrible, static on every station. I have talked to 3 deals and they say its a probem but unless acura issues a recall,,, tough cookies.
I just ordered an aftermarket HU and we will see how much that improves the reception. I drove 6 different TSX's while shoping and the radio was bad on all of them. I would have to consider it the cheapest portion of the car. But than again who cares as step 1 of any new car is to gut the factory crap and go aftermarket, all though i will miss the in-dash cd-changer.

Hmm... I never thought that was step one. I thought it was up there, but I usually thought wheels and tires were first, followed by security, and then audio.

ElDude, who uses the OE HU 6-disc changer to drive an aftermarket amp and speaker system and whose FM reception seems just fine.

Step 1 in Florida is window tint.

wheels and tires? I guess that depends on which "discipline" you follow and where you want to end up...hehe

On my very first car I did the entire exterior first before doing the audio.
After I was all done...It dawned on me...The exterior is more for everyone else, and the audio interior is all for me!

So on this car...I said screw everyone else...and I did security....and I hooked up all of my audio first! I'm glad I decided to go this way...therez nothing like cruisin in the TSX with the beats soundin really clean!

After I get my battery backup hooked up....I think I'm gonna take a break from the audio for awhile......Time for an OEM body kit!!

Yo

I was being sarcastic when I said it was step 1. Of course I did rims's and tires first, (sig). ha. Anyways I am currently using the factory HU to drive my aftermarket setup but the deck has got to go. Maybe it is just seattle but out of every car I have ever ridden in my new tsx gets the worst reception, even the Kraco I had in my 79 Volorie got better reception, but hey that is ok, HU gets here this week, new PG amp, second roll of b-quiet, and than I can start my sub build.

Hey...sorry to get off topic...but How do you like the icebox?
How much can you notice the extra power?
How loud is it at greater than 3000 RPMs?

Honestly, I did not notice any gains, the only change is in the volume, which sounds nicer. I have an AEM intake on my accord and the extra HP was much more noticiable, I plan to sell my Ice and get an AEM or Injen after Turkey day.
It does give the car a nice growl though.

I just got Injen and a like it a lot. I did notice some gains. Seems like I can go higher speeds at lower RPMs. The thing is it's pretty loud from 3500 and above. I like the sound...but when I first heard it I was like...Damn..that's pretty loud.

Below 3500 the sound is the same. It nice because I can drive it and be quite when I want.

Always kinda wondering about the icebox though. I know comptech is known for being quite and close to factory. Would you consider the icebox a lot louder than stock? Does it "growl" at 5000-7000?

IceBox

Its got a nice growl, but not like the AEM CAI on my accord, that was way louder. Seems sorta ironic that an intake makes your car louder. my APEX WS exhaust did not change the volume at all on my accord.
I will probably buy an injen after the holidays and sell the IceBox. I want to finish my stereo first, it is taking forever. My b-quiet comes in next week so I guess it is time to strip the interior and run power to the trunk.

Dunno why your reception is bad, but while I was in Cali, the reception was fine for me. I haven't had reception problems out here in the DC metro area either.
