Dont they require 90w rms per channel minimum. I know the stock system doesnt put that out. You can try a line output converted from peripheral.com, but dont know if it will work. I think you might have to do what everyone else does and just redo the system.

Whatever the issue is, NOT having 90 W pc ain't the problem.

Sounds like you blew your speakers. For info on why you cna blow speakers with low watts, read the FIRST post here: https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-navigation-22/car-audio-basics-sq-noobs-289959/

And while I'd like you to redo the system, I would suggest learning before spending... : )

New speakers aren't going to solve the reason those blew...

JBl's are ok mid-fi speakers. You got a price?

When you get aftermarket speakers, optimally you should be running them with an amp that can put out some decent power within the RMS rating. You want low distortion and many amps nowadays have variable crossovers to cross out frequencies that your speaker can't handle. Components often come with their own crossovers.

What do you think of these elduderino as an option? CDT makes some good stuff, and they are marked down just due to a color, the non colored one is almost $300.

Look, I think you need to come at this a different way.

Those speakers work fine. You probably did not blow them because they suck, you probably blew them because you played them so loud that they:

A) were getting distrted power from the amp (since it's only an 18W amp)

B) Sounded like crap.

If you played the system that loud, and it sounded like crap and you didn't notice, I would sugges that you are really looking for some volume and bass that you will only get from an amped system.

If you don't want to get an amp, that's cool, but you do need to reorient how loud you think a system can play.

I will bet $20 your bass control was up all the way and your volume was up high and you were playing music with a very high bass content, and those speakers were bottoming out from the amp clipping.

First I think you want to clearly decide and state what you want a car stereo system to do for you. Then people on the forum can make useful recommendations.

Neil is still worried about distortion specs, I see. : )

What amp do you recomend to put in the 2005 TSX?
Are there any post with easy installs and pictures just an easy swap the OEM amp.
I'm not looking to blow my winshield out of my car.
I do know how to use a sodering iron.
Let me know.
Thanks

Amp addition and speaker replacement

Sounds like you blew your speakers. For info on why you cna blow speakers with low watts, read the FIRST post here: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=289959

Good thing I came across this article. Thanks for the advise. Some more if you would?

I have a couple of MB Quart 6x9 coaxial's I'd like to replace the factory ones with in my '04 TSX. I've yet to do some measurement to see if they'll fit. Hopefully today. Now, I understand that the OEM amp hasn't enough rated power to push these speakers safely w/o destroying them. And, another post has me believing that the amp crosses over the signal before heading to the original 6x9's providing them with just mid-bass to bass frequencies. Is this correct? If so, do you happen to know the other cut-off frequencies for the other driven channels from the oem amp?

I'm thinking of using your advice and converting the 14 pin harness leads to a couple pairs of RCA connectors and using them to send the H/U signal to an aftermarket amp. I also plan on replacing the other 6 factory speakers (with MB Quarts if possible). Do you think I would 'have' to replace the speaker wires already in the vehicle or would they 'pass' for providing decent strength and clarity? If so, I'd like to use the 20 pin harness and an adapter if one's available to run wires to the new amp w/o having to rewire every speaker location. I still want to be able to put the stock system back in place when my lease is over.

Also, any suggestions as to a good spot in the trunk to ground the amp and a good spot to run a grommeted power lead through the firewall? Again, I don't want to experiment too much and place damage to the vehicle.

I'm not willing to begin this project until I have all the angles figured out for a clean install, so I'm not in a hurry...from what I've read, you're very knowledgeable in this area and any guideance would be appreciated.

Thanks
