Please help! my amp keeps blowing fuses
I have had my amp and 12" sub in my prelude before the TSX. It worked fine. Then it was in the TSX for a few months working flawlessly. Can somebody explain to my why I am now blowing fuses. At the first sign of trouble, the fuses would last for about 30 minutes before blowing. Now, as soon as I put new 20A replacement fuses and turn the ignition key, I can hear the fuses blow. I know this because I folded the backseat down while doing this. I don't know much about electronics. Everything was professionally installed. I hate to go back to the installer for fear that they will want to charge me for a new amp when it could be something minor. I am afraid that I will get taken advantage of. I will appreciate any help. Thanks
Check your wires...make sure your speaker wires are all clean (not frayed and touching each other)...then check your ground wire (the thicker black wire) it will be right by your main power wire. Make sure the wire is still secure to bare metal on the car. Usually installers will mount it on the back seat bolt. Just make sure all the paint underneath the bolt has been scraped off to there is good contact.
Sounds like a wire problem if it has worked before, maybe something came loose

Do you have a fused distribution block or something that you've added in the trunk?
What is the make/model/watts of the amp?
I'm wondering if maybe you need a higher AMP fuse, 20A might be too low.
OU, MB, or Eld could give you a more definite answer though.

i am not sure of the specs. I will have to take a look. I simply replaced the fuses with the ones that were already there. They have 20A on them. Do you mean that I should be using different fuses?
Thought I posted to this - huh... where's the blowing fuse? At the battery or the amp?
Any reputable installer gives an install warranty - if you're that afraid to go back, stop by a bar on the way for some liquid courage.
But do it early - you don't want to show up on Friday afternoon when they're slammed for a warranty - they will help but they may not be warm and fuzzy about it.

judging by the sounds of the original post i would assum you are talking about the fused protection located on the amp itself. I would venture that something like the power rails or something of the sort internally on the amp is grounding out. Unfortunately unless you are good at fixing amplifier internals, I would suggest you inquire at your local dealer about repair options.
