Playing DVDs

Can anyone advise me? I want to play DVDs in 5.1 in my 04 TL. I'm not concerned immediately about playing video; I may upgrade later. It's just that I have an extensive collection of DVD video concerts that I'd like to play in 5.1.

im not really following what you are trying to do.. either way the stock headunit is not going to play a dvd video disk so you will have to get some sort of adapter (blitzsafe) if it even exist to allow you to input the dvd audio into the headunit.. oh and you are going to need a dvd player that will play the dvd disk.. as for 5.1 i dont think you are going to be able to reproduce 5.1 with the stock headunit...

I'm wondering whether there's a DVD changer unit I can buy (maybe installed in the trunk) that can play DVDs in 5.1 surround.

That would be nice but doesn't seem possible unless you burn the dvd into dvd-a format. Maybe dvdxcopy then convert to dvd-a.

I had the same question. I have many DVD's of concerts. These are regular DVD videos.

I'd like to pop them in and listen to them while I drive, I don't need the video.

Anyone try to play one yet? I'm considering purchasing the TL soon and was wondering if it is possible.

I think Shawhite is correct. You are pretty much looking at replacing or adding an indash unit that will decode and play DVD. My Eclipse AV-8132 will do that.

Like everybody else said. You will need some type of head unit to play in 5.1. Its like your home theatre set up. A dvd player can read that the disc is encoded in 5.1 but unless you have a receiver that will actually decode it and send it to the right speakers its useless. You may be able to find some type of mp3 style player that has this capability. Good luck and let us know if you find anything,

I'm not sure you understood the original poster's question (which is also my question).

We just want to play the audio off of a DVD or DTS disc (ie I have many concert and music DVD's). I don't care about any video. Isn't the audio track the same for the DTS or DVD (there is an audio.ts and video.ts file on the DVD). Is the DVD-A just the audio.ts file?
