Pionner AVIC-N1 - Does anyone have this in the TSX?

Hey Everyone,

I just got my TSX about 3 weeks ago, and I have been reading this forum day and night! There is some great info here!

This is what i have so far:
Clifford Alarm
Diamond Audio Components in Front
Infinity 6002i in the back doors.
Sony Xplod 6x9's with a bass crossover > 100 Hz
Jl Audio 12" W4 (the older ones)
Phoenix Gold 250zx Amp with Bass Knob mounted next to VSA button
Nokia Bluetooth car kit Carkit 112
RCA Lyra Rd2780 providing Audio/video/mp3 via the SHonda Aux Cable
Valentine 1 with concealed display (not hardwired right now)

Anyway, eventhough I did all that stuff, I still want to get the Pioneer AVIC-N1 deck with navigation/DVD/mp3/ 6.5" screen!!!

1) Does anyone have this in their TSX yet?

I want to do the install by getting the Acura attachment kit that is normally used for the Acura OEM Mp3 player.

2) Does anyone know if that kit is single DIN and also whether or not I can fit the Pionner deck in there?

3) The thing I am really worried about is whether or not the screen will be able to flip up all the way. What does everyone think?

4) Also, what have you heard about that deck. I have heard a lot of good things, but I don't know anyone that has actually had it in their car. I've read reviews.

Let me know what you think everyone. I appreciate all of the feedback! I am ready to buy that thing very soon!!

Thanks again! Kenny

I played around with one when I was in the states and I thought it was pretty cool although it needs a couple hundred more mhz in processing power. The routing seemed slow especially if you go off course and it had to re route you.

I was also looking at that same setup, but when I saw another member's installation I wasn't sure anymore ..

http://web.njit.edu/~mxl4729/other/tsx/

it looks good but I was hoping to be able to have the lid on the center console.

Yeah I thought about trying to keep the lid though too. You get extra peace of mind since people can't see it in your car. That would be nice. You would need a custom mod for that though. If you could close the lid, do you think the screen would have enough room to pop out?

A good thing about the Acura Mp3 kit is that the Deck would actually screw into the Dash of the car. Someone would have to take apart your dash in order to get out the deck. The Pioneer Deck is also detachable face which also helps I guess.

What does everyone think about the sound quality of hooking the deck up through the AUX input via the SNHonda3 Cable?

I'm still debating on getting it, anyone else have any other opinions/ideas?

Thanks!! Kenny

Hi,

The deck goes for about $1500 or so.

You can move the screen. It only goes up or down, not left to right.

Yes it is touchscreen.

I'm starting to have seconds thoughts about getting it now. I talked to some installers and they said it would be like $200 and they would have to tap into the wires behind my speedometer. My car is less than 1 month old, so I'm don't anyone touching that. Plus I bet if I ever ran into problems and had to bring it into the dealer, they would give me a hard time with all of that electrical stuff that was done. I already am running a lot of stuff!

I now thinking I should wait it out, and at least enjoy just driving my car for awhile, before I go and do all of these extra things to it.

I would still love to hear anyone's input on setting up a deck in that location.

Has anyone put a screen or anything like around the storage bin area?

Thanks...Kenny

Hey ... I was thinking even though the screen can move up and down, it would still wouldn't work with the lid because when the lid is up it would block the screen from tilting back enough for you to view it clearly ... just a thought

Well if you get the Acura Mp3 player installation kit then you automatically lose the closing door.

Check out this picture of a factory mp3 player:
http://www.handa-accessories.com/tsx.html

I found out that you could get the Installation kit normally used for the OEM mp3 player as a seperate part. I would basically just buy this kit and put the Pioneer N1 unit in place of the Mp3 player.

YOu can get the deck for 1500 US on Ebay. Just get a seller with very high feedback.

I heard they have to tap into wire for the Navigation and also because the deck has built in Performance gauges. It with measure your Speed, Voltage, G Force, cornering and some other stuff.

They Navi might also need some wires behind the Speedometer I'm not sure.

Take a look at this deck!!! It's tight:

ok .. if you want sound quality .. get the pioneer 7500 dvd set, it gets 5.1 surround sound, 7 inch screen, mp3 and can always add a navi. but with the avic-n1 .. it's a 6.5 inch screen w/out 5.1 surround and you cant upgrade to a 5.1 surround .. i think

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. The 5.1 is not super important to me at this point. A little bigger screen would be nice though. Isn't it like $700-$800 to add Navi?

I priced the deck yo mentioned and it is about $200 cheaper, but there is no Navi. It does have a TV tuner though. I still think that I want the N1 though. Some of the other features, like the performance gauages would be kind of cool.

I'm looking to buy it in the next few days. I will post pics if I get and install it.

Thanks....Kenny

I do not think that will work, because the mp3 kit is mounted all the way back. The screen needs to come out more or else the screen will not be able to come out.

Take a look at what I am talking about. It is still not complete, some sanding is still needed along with painting it.

Hi,

I found a shop in my city that would do a custom install for $300. What they did on another TSX was to cut the storage bin door and mount the deck in there. Even with that install, the deck was a little deeper into the dash.

Take another look here:
http://www.handa-accessories.com/tsx.html

Click on the picture. If you enlarge the picture then you can see a really good shot of it.

You bring up a good point though. I think the screen will come out, but it will be close.

I am buying this deck tomorrow and I am still debating on the install.

So I would still like to hear what others think. It will take a few days for the deck to get to me, so I have a little time to decide still.

Let me know everyone!

Thanks...Kenny

Also if you look at the picture really close. You will see that the top edge of the mp3 kit actually comes out and is less deep than the storage bin door is. I wonder if you lose that blue light that normally shines on top of the storage bin.

I got some more thinking to do! Thanks for everyone's input so far!

Personally, i think you should wait for a kit taht would replaces teh stock radio. If you are puttin the N1 to where that same guy from http://web.njit.edu/~mxl4729/other/tsx/ you'll gonna hate it becuase it's sittin too low. I have the Pioneer 7300 dvd set in an integra and it's sittin at stock lacation and it's still too low.
