when you get this system, if i dont want xm radio or nav traffic, is there a service charge that is related to the navigation alone. like yearly or monthly? if so how much?

No, there are no charges to use the navigation part of the unit. Only extra services like XM, NavTraffic, and Sirius require an extra subscription

I think he means XM Traffic only.

http://www.xmradio.com/xmnavtraffic/get_nav.jsp

$10 a month for Traffic only.

$16.94/month for Traffic and XMRadio.
