I've had the Premier unit for over a year and I love it. Tons of features, DSP, nice conservative layout and appearance, 6 volt preouts, etc, etc. I highly recommend the unit but dont pay more than about $500-550 for it on eBay. I bought mine from a seller called Bumper2bumper7 the very first day the unit came out on the market. I've bought Polk Momos from him since then and all his stuff is first quality brand new.

Sound quality is superb IF all the rest of your equipment is good. Remember, your system can only sound as good as its weakest link.

There will be Apline die-hards that will disagree with getting the Premier. Apline makes great stuff too, and I was in the car auido business for 15 years til the mid 1990s and installed all the high end stuff. At the time, the only problem with Alpine was that you could only buy it from "authorized Alpine vendors" which meant paying list price for everything Alpine. If a vendor tried to sell it at a discount, Apline would pull the distributor. With markups at 100% it just didnt make sense to pay that much when there was other stuff just as good for less money. Nowadays, frankly i dont know if Apline still plays that game or whether a comparable Apline head can be had in the same price range. To me, the Apline units are too busy looking with all their zillions of odd shapped buttons.

I only have had my 9815 since march and now I look at the Premier and I really like it. I payed $500 for my 9815 and for 100 bukcs more I should have got the Premier then. For now I will stick to the 9815 till x-mas and then put the 9815 in my RSX and get something new for the TL. In my RSX is a simple system with Alpine type S speakers and Diamond audio 12" in my TL its a a never ending, always changing system.

Shawhite you read my mind. I am now lookin at the Eclipse CD8443 and CD8053. I had the Alpine CDA7897 fantom face and it gave me problems and now my 9815 the screen display keeps messing up and when I press buttons it just goes wild. SO today I took my car in and they said they will put a new head in but then they just became a eclipse dealer so I might as well go with that. Would I notice a big diifer in sound from my 9815 with the Eclipse and I see the eclipse has a 8 volt preout to.

Has anyone hooked up the units with the Nav and onstar? How can I retain the mute features when the nav/onstar is active with a after market HU?

dnd...Eclipse units are awesome. My 7002 has such clean sound. I think it is even better than my Alpine IVA-C800.

hey smitht1023 that is a good question... i guess it depends on the aftermarket headunit you are using.. i know the alpine has an int that could be used to mux the radio when an aux input is present.... anything is possible if you have the time and the money...

The Kenwood has an interupt, but the car has 2. 1 for the Nav and 1 for the onstar. And if use the interupt how does the audio get to the speakers. I really want to install my EMPEG and Kenwood 910 in my TL-S. 30gigs of music and no fumbling with CD's. Can't wait to install it.
