Pics of my Nav conversion on TSX

I finally installed my Myron Davis DVD player and Dom's Nav conversion. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I installed the dvd player in the lower pocket like a few other members on here have. Perfect fit, looks very close to factory. Mounted Dom's converter behind the right side kick panel with a 4 pole KH relay wired directly to the dvd players remote turn on. Basically, once I hit the power button on the DVD player, it activates the relay and gives DVD sound with out hitting any other switches other than the switch for the screen to switch over. Must say, the picture is even better than I thought.

I will post pics when I figure out how to put them in here.

Definitely post some pics when you can. So you won't be able to switch between Nav and DVD if the DVD player is on? ie. you would not use the DVD player if you were using the navigation

Doing a nav converion is not as hard as posting pictures here......

Just post the pics somewhere on the Internet (I use tinypic.com) and then link to the actual picture.

I only wired the audio to switch over when the DVD player is on, not the video. That is switched, I used the pop outs next to the moon roof to mount a mini rocker switch. The audio sounds crystal clear and no noise or reduction in sound. All the wiring was done in the kick panel, the blue plug is for audio(XM) and the white connector has the video signal and the gray has constant power and switched power. Only thing maybe some else who has done this would know. Do you switch the selector to RGBS or RGSB? It works fine but wonder if one is better than the other. Also, when you first start the car, does the Acura Nav wallpaper look very dim and blurred for 1-2 seconds before power gets to the converter or are most people wiring it to be constantly on? I have it so the instant I start to turn the key the converter has power, but it has a few second delay before letting the factory nav wallpaper go to the screen. Hopefully that makes sense.

I forgot to mention, I remember someone on here complaining about everybody using Fast and the Furious for there pics, well Under Cover Brotha makes a better pic. I should have taken the pic when he was spinning out holding his orange soda!

Excellent install dizzy . How much was it for all the parts and what was the install time?

Not too expensive.
Myron Davis AD212 $118 + S/H from Audio-outfitters.com
Dom's Converter $125 + S/H from Nav2TV2Go
Relay/wire/ connectors $22 + S/H from Allelectronics.com

Now, I just need order my amp and sub and some front speakers. All JL audio of course.

I have the same DVD player that you got and they installed it in the same place you did. I don't have the Navi converter, but I got the DVD player and Headrest monitors installed in June. The 3/4 din worked out good to conceal it in the cubby.

Clean install, of course I am bias though because I am rocking the same player and install. lol

CJAMS- Do you have Dom's converter or the avelectonics converter? Do you get a very light blurred version of the Acura wallpaper when you first turn on the car(maybe 1-2 seconds) before it goes to normal. There is a delay to power up on the converter and was wonder if yours does the same or if you wired power to the unit differently than I did. I get 12+ from all key positions except off.

Doms unit. Sometimes when I turn on the car I the screen distorts for a split second on start up. No big deal though.

Okay, I figured it out. I hooked my converters power after a noise filter that was came inline with the DVD players power wires. Turns out, there is about a 2 second delay for it to turn on once it has power. It must have an internal relay and filter. Moved the 12+ wire before the filter and now the Acura wallpaper comes on like it did before I did the mod. Giggity Giggity

So the sound is fine even without using an adapter?

I'm a complete beginner to doing anything this extensive, only hardwired my radar detector, but want to put some dvd action on my screen.

The sound is CD quality, every detail and sound from the Movie is heard. You can use a aux 3 switcher or you can just build a switcher with a 4 pole relay or use 4 single pole relays. They all do the same.

Hmm, I think you are overestimating what I meant by beginner. Luckily, I work with a team of EE's and will just ask them

If you can handle a soldering iron and basic understanding of DC voltage, you can do it. In the TSX, all the wires you need to access are in the right kick panel. They do make a plug n play version of the converter so the only thing you would need to do is hookup the power, which you already have done before with the radar detector.

Thats all you need really to do it. The only thing else you need is some wires(preferably 4 different colors) and any switch from Radio shack or even at Pep boys to activate the relay. If you want it to be fancier you can solder on RCA's to the relay and to the factory wires so you can just plug it in or just solder it straight to the factory wires, either way works.

Install question

Hi,
I think you have a great install Dizzy1, exactly what I want to do on my 06 tsx. If you could clarify something for me though that would be great.

Could you explain the wires going from and to the relay and what wires did you cut on the blue connector in the kick panel for switching audio? If its not too much trouble, could you please explain which terminals are connected to which wires on the blue connector. Possibly a picture with the bare relay terminals would be nice, but I am sure you wouldn't want to get the insulation off now that you have everything installed.

Also, which wire did you use for power on the gray connector. I would want to use the switched power wire, but which one is it, do you know?

Thanks

Here is a quick and ugly drawing of what the back of the relay looks like. The lite rectangles are the metal contacts that are on the relay. There are 14 total if you use a 4 pole relay. This info is for an '05 and I'm not responsible for any damage you do if the colors are different on your car. On the light blue connector, the audio from the xm box in the trunk goes to the radio. Cut the Blue(L+) pin location 6; White(L-) pin#4; Green(R+) pin#5; and Red(R-) pin#3. The side of the cut wires that goes towards the floor of the kickpanel leads back to the XM receiver in the trunk. These wires go to the bottom row on the relay, like in the pic. The side of the cut wires heading up to the dashboard, go to the middle row of the relay. THen on the top row of the relay, solder on a pair of RCA's to go to your dvd player. Connect the positive tab on the relay(their is no right or wrong side when it comes to the neg and pos tabs) and run a wire to a switch mounted where ever you want it. Connect the switch to ground so when you toggle it, it will send a ground to the relay activating it and switching between XM radio and your DVD player. The audio switches, but the display on the nav will still show the XM information on it.
For switched power, I used the light blue wire in the gray connector, pin#2. Its a switched power for the XM trunk receiver. For constant power, on the white connector, you can use the white w/ red stripe at pin#6. Its hot all the time.
Let me know if this helps you out.

wow, you are the best...
I have an 06, but I'll follow your instructions to see if the colors are the same on mine. If they are not I'll post my findings here.

The other thing, I thought the relay gets activated when you turn your DVD player on. So, the way you just described I would have 2 switches? one for audio and another for video? I'd like to have one switch for both

With this paticular dvd player, it has a switched power wire to activate anything you want. You hit power on the dvd player and it activates the relay. I'm not sure if all dvd players do this, if your's does, then you would just need one for the video and if you wanted you could wire a relay for the converter so it would toggle also with the power on the dvd player. It would get old though if you need to just check directions you would have to turn the dvd player off then back on again.

I guess the best way to do this is probably have one switch that would turn on/off the video, but audio would be switched when the player is turned off. Because you are right, you would want to look at the directions while you are driving, however you don't really need the audio from navi.

I am assuming the audio from the DVD player will be muted if you press the voice recognition button to give a voice command.

2006 differences

I have manual 2006 TSX so I don't know if there is a difference with Automatics or not. The connector that is light blue in the kick panel (XM audio) is actually white just like the big connector where you cut the 4 wires for dom's unit.

And the wire colors are different. Here is a drawing of what the pinout looks like.

Could you confirm dizzy1 what pins (according to this diagram) you cut in order to connect to the relay. If you could, please specify R+/R-/L-/L+

Thanks a lot for all your help.

The 05 has a completely different connector then that. The 05 has a light blue connector with only 6 pin locations. I have no idea on your 12 pin which is which, you need to either get or find someone who has a helm's manual for the 06.

So Helm's manual is where your found which wire is which, or did you find it somewhere else?

I am 100% that this connector controls XM radio, because once i unplug it, xm no longer works.
By the way, do you have XM1 and XM2 on your radio, or is it just XM. Because they are setup as two different sources in the navigation screen. I can change between XM1 and XM2 by pressing the "Mode" button on the steering wheel.

Maybe thats why there is 12 pins instead of 6?. If thats the case, I am guessing the pins to cut would be the same, since it would make sense that they doubled the wires on the connector to accomodate 2 XM "sources"

I used the helms manual. I have XM1 and XM2 also. I'm not sure why they would have changed the connector since XM was not changed between the years. I would find someone who has the manual.

I was able to figure out which wires are which for XM audio in the 12 pin connector. The wires to cut are pins 3, 4, 5, 6 using my diagram I cut the femail connector so the colors are black, green, white, and red respectively. I have no idea what other 8 wires are for and I don't really care.

Pin 6 - R+
Pin 4 - R-
Pin 5 - L+
Pin 3 - L-

I am still trying figure out how I am going to mount the dom's converter and the relay (I got a 14 Pin Screw Terminal Socket so its kind of big assembled)

I also get moving lines across the screen from time to time, which really bugs me. I read that people are putting in filter for the power to the dom's converter, so I am going to try to do that and see what happens.

There is also some kind of black box in the kick panel with green connector. I think it said that its for interior lighting. I got constant power to the DVD player from that connector. I also hooked up the blue wire from the DVD player (12V when the player is on) to the relay in order for the audio to switch automatically when the player is on.
