Permanent mounting of sub box

I've finally got my system completed and it sounds friggin awesome!

The IDMAX box probably weighs around 45lbs or so!

Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions as to how to keep it from moving around. I'm a little nervous about drilling into the bottom of the trunk due to the gas tank and anything else I can't see under there.

How did you mount yours? I'd like to mount mine up against my amp rack with the sub facing the rear of the car.

Also, any suggestions for a grill? The surrounds are too big to use a generic speaker grill but I want something to protect the woofer when I'm putting groceries, etc. in the trunk.

Thanks!

Heavy-duty velcro. It won't move. You can get it from Home Depot. Comes in a roll, about 2" wide. You just need the hook side on your sub box. The carpet will act as the loop side.

Seriously? Velcro will keep the box from moving side to side/front to back?

Do you cover the entire underside of the box with it?

I was thinking of having a buddy of mine braze some brackets to the floor pan and then use a ratcheting system like you use for a truck bed to keep it in place.

That must be some kick a$$ velcro to keep a box mounted solidly!!

I have a pair of ID 12's in my trunk with the amps mounted to the front of the box. The box never moves. Of course, it probably weighs in at 75+ lbs. With enough velcro, it would hold. As long as the box is not top heavy. If you turn a sharp corner and the box falls over, velcro may not be the answer.

Why not spend a few bucks on velcro before you start taking a welding torch to your car?

Sub Grille

You can get a grille from www.crutchfield.com they come in many different shapes like the kicker style, the AudioBahn style and a couple of others, they come colored and some in crome. Look in Subwoofer Grilles there are 27 different ones, They will protect your speaker from your groceries.
I have tried to put up the link to the site here it is

That's guaranteed. No torching until I see the velcro won't cut it. I'm not guessing it will move too much without anything but I don't want to find a hole in my >$300 subwoofer.

Thanks for the tip. So far it has worked great. Hell, now it's hard to get the box out of the trunk!!

Talk about quick, easy, and cheap....

I had some of that stuff on my cd changer. I wanted to mount the changer in the trunk. Everytime I sat the changer down, it took me 5 minutes to pry the thing up off the carpet. I use it all the time inside as well. Hold down the controllers and brains for the indash screens.
