one touch up/down auto windows
one touch up/down auto windows
My sore fingers have spent too much time already having to hold down the sunroof button and wait for it to finish opening/closing. The same goes for having to hold the UP button to raise my driver side window.
I just bought some DEI window automation modules and I'm going to give it a try. If it's not too hard, I'll try to do all four windows and the sunroof. If it's too hard, I'll just try to do the front windows and the sunroof. If I can find the wires, I might even try to tap into the factory alarm so that the windows roll up upon the second tap of the lock button on the remote. Maybe I can get all the door locks to all unlock upon the first tap of the remote unlock button and the windows to roll-down upon the second tap of the remote unlock button. Hmm.
Is there an easy way to take the door panels off? Anyone know where the factory alarm module and wires are located? Any help will be much appreciated, or I will just have to play guess and check with the wire spaghetti that lies under the dash. Where do you guys buy a Helm electrical schematic manual for the car anyways?
thanks.

Try http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp
Their web site search sucks, so call them directly @(800) 782-4356 and ask for a '99-'01 TL Service Manual. There's also a supplement manual for the '02 if you're interested.

I got along ok taking apart the doors and the molding. I decide where I'm going to run the wires for the window modules. I identify the wires I need to cut into, then just as I'm about to start cutting, I realize that the factory wiring loom that connects the door to the car is sealed tight with no room for extra wires.
I come to the conclusion that I would need to drill new holes into the door and the door jamb to fit the extra wires into place. It's a tight squeeze too. I don't even think I could fit a drill in there without a 90 degree attachment. I don't even know if I want to start drilling holes into the car and find out I messed something up, drill more holes, and turn my TL into a metal hunk of swiss cheese. Ack! I feel so frustrated! So close and yet so far! I want my automatic windows!
Maybe I should just pay a professional to do it for me. I estimate that labor costs for four windows and the sunroof will be in the $300 range.

One of my friends owns a tinting/alarm shop...and i asked him if i could add auto up/down to my car....he told he it is hard the way Honda/Acura makes it, it will take about an hour each door to complete. so 4 doors = 4 hours of labor
