Question OEM h/u line signals

Hi all,

Just got my new TL last month and I'm getting ready to upgrade the sound...

From browsing this forum I've gathered that the OEM h/u puts out speaker level signals to the door speakers (no Bose amp in between) and line level signal to a Bose subwoofer amp located under the rear seat.

A couple of questions for you folks who've already attached new amps to the OEM h/u:

1. Have got the info straight ?

2. Are regular LOC's OK to use on the speaker level signals, or are the "special" LOC's designed for other Bose systems (LOC-B) required ? I beleive this has to do with a relatively low speaker signal coming from Bose system h/u's - not sure if it applies to our alpine unit.

2. I assume there is a low pass applied to the subwoofer line somewhere in the OEM system. Anyone know where? (e.g. the h/u, a crossover after the h/u, or the sub amp itself).

Thanks for your help!

you can use the stock preamp signals from the HU. they are 2 wires twisted pair covered in a brown sheath. the remote turn on wire is orange with a stripe. i think the signal from the factory HU is already crossed over but i am not sure.

Thanks Preludeshfan, do you know if that subwoofer signal from the headunit is balanced line?

No special line converter is needed, but I would recommend a higher end version (something made by p.i.e. or another manufacturer who specializes in converters...unless you want to get into really HIGH end stuff, which really isnt necessary unless getting into competition sound).

There is an external crossover to the subwoofer which is located on the underside of the trunk near where the seatbelt restraint is.

I tapped into the 8 spkr wires from the wiring harness coming out of the h/u using a PIE 4-channel LOC (bought from StreetEffectz). Then from there using rear channel ran RCAs to my Alpine parametric EQ and from there to the amps in the trunk. I disconnected the sub amp that resides behind the right rear seatback. I have PG amps for sub and door spkrs. My systems bumps but I'm currently redesigning the amp placement so I'll have more trunk space. StreetEffectz is the man if you need gear at a great price....he can get just about anything you might need!
