New Subwoofer Options
New Subwoofer Options
Hey guys,
I currently have an Alpine MRD-301m amp in my 04 tsx. I have two different boxes that I could use. Previously I had a ported box that used two 10 inch MBquarts, the bass is really impressive and loud, too much for me even though I love hip hop etc... The main problem is that this box is quite large and takes up a ton of space in my trunk. Howver, I have a single 12" sealed box that has a MBQuart 12 in it. I like the fact that this box is much smaller and more convienent to keep in my car, but the problem is the amp is pushing the sub too hard and I have to turn the gains way down. So basically I need suggestions on a new 12" subwoofer that can handle 300 Watts RMS easily and works with a 1.25-1.4 cubic feet enclosure(I measured the box but In not exactly sure how thick the MDF is). Ideally I want a high excursion, pretty decent subwoofer that can handle that amp with the level at +0, current its at -6. I've considered alpine S, jl w3 or w6 series. PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR SUGGESTIONS!!! THANKS!!! (btw if anyone is interested in a great sounding double 10" ported box with subs let me know, its for sale)

Let me clarify. The -6 setting is the level on the amp. I usually keep the radio at -2 or 0 for bass. Fully level on the amp is +0. Furthremore the amp has a gain function of +0, +6, or +9. I usually keep this at +0. Hope that helps.
Oh... your amp gain setting, got it.
I suspect you may want to read the JL audio tutorial on amp gain setting...

second one down...
regardless, I would recommend JL over alpine s or mbq.

I like the JL stuff also. Not too expense and you get good bang for the buck. It also fits in your enclosure as well as the power that you are going to put to it.
I like DLS Stuff, but you can't get it anywhere really. Their subs are pretty good, but their really high end stuff is the components. Not too bad price wise either. The SQ is AMAZING and they take a ton of power and are very efficient too.
just my .02

I have a JL 12w3v2 in a sealed box 1.25 cubic feet with 300 watts RMS. I think you can get them for around $150 on Ebay. You might wanna consider this sub. There are a lot of people running it here and everyone seems to like them.
Maybe some other members can chime in and mention some other good subs.
