New Speakers
Hey guys,
So now that i have my sub situation figured out (finally have a new 05 kicker compVR 12 pushed by an alpine mrd 300 watt amp) im looking to get new speakers. My budget isn't much so I was wondering if it would be worth it to just replace the speakers and run them off the factory amp. I know sensitivity is a big issure here, so does anyone know of some models that might work well? Also, how difficult would it be for me to replace the tweets and door speakers myself? Are there instructions here? Thanks in advance.

150 will get you some decent speakers, but ultimately what is your goal? Are you lookin for just ANY upgrade from stock, or do you plan on building a pretty decent system in the long run?

I upgraded with an Alpine MRP-F240 4-channel amp driving SPS-170A's for the fronts and SPS-690A's in the rear deck. The stock amp is driving the stock tweeters and the rear door speakers. I notice a lot more clarity, definite improvement in loudness and bass. If you do it yourself, it's a pretty budget minded upgrade. It wasn't too steep and has done enough to not make me want a sub (yet). I had an installer do the amp and fronts so can't comment on how hard it would be. I did the rear speakers a while ago (a snap) and dynamatted the rear doors (not that difficult either).
All 4 doors are dynamatted now, which was a must for my car's rattles. Once that was worked out I noticed a huge improvement in sound quality and less road noise.
My installers were able to get the amp under the front passenger seat. I didn't notice any shims, but they did remove two plastic boots that cover some of the floor bolts. Seat works fine, amp doesn't block the air vents. Very happy with it.
I feel a need to dampen everything possible and found that B-Quiet works just as well as Dynamat for much less as other have noted. I also bought some Fat Mat, which is even cheaper, just to see how well that performs in comparison.
