New Headunit Installing QUestion

I am planning to get a new headunit. What I`m worried about is, when I put the new HU in, where do I buy the spacing thing that`ll cover up the space that is exposed when installing a new headunit. I have a 1999 TL btw, and the HU is big in size (top-to-bottom wise), so I`m wondering what will I have to use to cover the space that the new HU will leave open. I hope you guys understand what I am talking about. And also, I want my stock speakers (not stock sub) to be more powerful, I have a 4-CH RF Punch Amp, how do I power the speakers with the amp? I also have 2 Kicker Competitions, but I have a 700W 2-CH Crunch to power that, I just need to know how to power my 4 stock speakers with the 4-CH Amp. BTW, the RF Punch is 240W, I think.

To fill in the big hole, use the Metra Application you can purchase at almost anywhere that sells car audio.
Metra Kit # 99-7868 for your car.
Metra Wiring Harness #17-1721
So your stock bose system will stay connected.

If you do decide to use your 4 Channel Amp, You have to run wires back to all 4 speakers, you can run it back up to the front where the head unit is from where you decide to mount the amp. Or you can run directly to each speaker.

I see. Another problem that is wandering around my mind is that. How will I have to wire the Amp to make it work for the 4 Speakers? The amp has built in X-Over (HPF, LPF, and Full). Will my amp be able to work if it is installed how it is right now (Turn-On Lead: Seat Heater Wires, 12+V: Battery, GND: Chassis, Pre-AMP Output: Connected thru a Hi-Low Pre-AMP Converter [Tapped into the wires of the stock sub]. Will it be able to work thru how I have it installed right now? I will just have to run the wires from the amp to the speakers right? And set the crossover on HPF? I need help Thanks for the reply Nismo.

Look, I didn't answer your first question because I couldn;t figure out what you were talking about. You want to take a deep breath, try again, and use your return key to create seperate paragraphs, I'll think again about trying ...

LOL, reminds of school. But okay, what I am trying to do at the moment, is power the 4 of my stock speakers with a 4-2CH AMP, with built-in Crossover, and 240w. I was wondering how will I have to do the wiring in order to get my 4 speakers to work with the amp?
[RETURN][NEW PARAGRAPH]
To be specific about the wiring question, will the current install-setup on the amp be able to work to power the 4 speakers?
Here is the description of my current amp setup:

Stock Subs ---> RCA Converter ---> Amplifier ----> Two Twelve Inch Subs

And this is what I am planning on doing:

Stock Subs ---> RCA Converter ---> Amplifier ----> 4 Stock Speakers

But the problem is, I`m afraid that the amp will only send out Low-Notes (Bass Only) to the speakers, becaues of the RCA Converter being tapped in the stock sub. Does this matter? Or does it not? I know I`ll have to put the Crossover to HPF when I hook up the 4 speakers to the amp, but I`m just worried it still won`t send out High-Notes (Vocals, Treble) to the speakers because of the RCA Converter being tapped into the stock sub wires.

And one more question, how do I hook up the speakers to the subs? Do I get rid of the wires that are coming from the headunit to the speakers? And hook it up directly to the amp?

I concur with Dark DJ, and your fear is valid - your line output convertor is getting a bass-only signal. Running it to your other amp is a problem. But Derrick's thread gives you options on how to bypass all that and get a full-range signal into your amp, bypassing the facotry amp and eq, and making your RCA convertor no longer needed.

all you have to do is
if you're using your stock deck this is how you want to do it

Deck with Speaker Level output -----> RCA high level to low level converter --------> AMP -----> to speakers

How simple that can be, then you'll get your full range. If you are going with an aftermarket deck then its

AFtermarket deck with front and rear preouts -----> RCA wires ----> AMP ----> to speakers

Nismo, do you KNOW that his HU is speaker-level output, or are you just talking?

I thought he had an external amp in that car?

I have an aftermarket amp. And I`m running it with the stock HU. The stock HU does not have RCA outputs. I had to go buy the Line Converter and tap it into the stock sub wires, and the line converter had RCA outputs, then the RCA cables ran into the aftermarket amp. I`m wanting to power my speakers, but it won`t send full-range signals to my speakers due to the line converter only send low-signals, IE: bass.

Don`t want to make a new thread. So, just reviving this one. Um, I`m getting a new Headunit tomorrow, it is a Sony Xplode. I have the metra kit ready. One question about installing, will I need the wiring harness? If I do, I can buy one of these at any audio shops right? What do I ask for when I go to the audio shop?

A harness will make it easier. Just say a "dash harness for a 99 Acura TL".

Alrightey. I have bought the headunit, installed and done. I just need to buy the metra dash kit now. I asked for the metra dash kit at the same audio place that I bought the wiring harness at. But they didn`t have it, I said that I saw it on crutchfield.com. And now they want the Product ID. I`m just wondering if this is the right product ID, it is my a 1999 TL. #99-7868? Is that the correct product number for the dash kit that I am looking for? How come I don`t see it on the Metra website?

you can do high level to the factory amp.
in the case of a CL metra has a harness that is 4 channel preouts and then power ground, acc and remote wire.

but I am using that harness and u have to crank the volumn really high.

From pictures off of ebay .. looks like Sony CDX CA750x have 3 set of preouts. i'm not familiar with your TL .. but since you are using aftermarket amps .. you can do this ..

**** ******************
assuming that your car:
1. have 1 adapter that plugs into the stock hu .. and that adaptor that has speaker lines, power, and all the other related wires running from it
2. front speaker at the front door with tweeter on dash, rear speakers are on the rear deck/rear door

***********************
1. Run the rca from your sony to the amp.
2. BUY a harness adaptor and what you do is ..
- using the newly harness adaptor .. take the Front right and connect it to the Rear right .. do that to left side also. so now it loops around.
- coonect the power, ground, constant power, powered antena to the sony hu's wiring harness
3. remote turn on from sony wiring harness conects to the amp
4. front speaker wire on the aftermarket amp (Left and right) connects to the rear stock speaker WIRE (the stock speaker wire that connects to the rear speaker)
5. rear speaker wire on the aftermarket amp (left and right) connects to the rear stock SPEAKER

This way .. you dont have to run an extra wire all the way up to the front for the front speakers. What you just did was using the front speaker wire (which is connected to the front speaker) looped around to the rear stock speaker wire .. due to the wiring on the purchased harness adapter .. you in turn make the rear stock speaker wire become front speaker wire .. and the speaker wire form the amps just connects to it.

Hm, nvm. I don`t think I will be doing that setup anymore. I didn`t know our stock speakers are that good? My headunit is 52x4, and the stock speakers handle it real well at higher volumes. I love it!

Okay, I am purchasing a new amp on Tuesday. I am going with the Crunch, 700W, 2-CH. My friend has one in his 1G CL and the quality and performance is real good. I`m planning to put my current amp, which is a Rockford Fosgate, 240W, 4-CH, in use for my inside speakers. Do you happen to know what the RMS is on our stock speakers? Sorry aznperswaeson, but I think I`m going to need that diagram now :X . I`ve read your post over and over again and tried to picture it, but I still don`t get the picture.
