new 6X9's
new 6X9's
anyone recommend replacing the stock 6X9's but leaving the stock comps in front running off stock power. im gonna get the new pioneer TS-E6995's, run them 80 watts rms each, how does this sound to you guys? any criticisms or info for me?
I personally...would change the front comps and leave the stock rear 6x9s in place. I think you would notice a bigger difference by changing the comps. 6x9s are usually used for rear fill and at times can throw your sound stage off. Get a good set of comps for the front run them off an amp and you'll be happy.
i dunno if the depth in the 1st gen is the same as the depth in the 2nd gen but i know for sure they will fit but the bars in the trunk will be rubbing against the magnet of the speaker the premier ts-906 is what i got to replace the ts-e6990 that i had and they sound so much better everything is cleaner and the 906 seems louder than the 6990
Don't use the JL 6x9's they sit right between the bars and prevent the lid from closing. I had to switch to Clarions instead.
This is unless someone has a way to mount a deeper speaker, that I'd love to learn.

I was thinking pretty much the samething.....was going to replace my back 6x9s and get an amp to pump those...and just use an upgraded deck to push the 4 front
yah. i only feel i need the 6s in the back changed because the mids/highs get drowned out by my sub, but only to those in the back seat. anyone know how to remove the stock 6X9s?
I would just get new comps in the front. The back is just for rear fill...and u would be wasting your money, unless someone drives u around, with u seating in the back....
I don't even have my rear speakers i took them out. If u have a good front stage, u won't even notice that rear speaker is gone. Only the person in the back.
ANywayz..to take out the rear speakers...all u have to do is...open our trunk, and look up, at the rear deck. You will see two screws. Those screws holds the grill. Take those three screws off, then go into the car and remove the grill. After removing the grill, you will see 4 bolts (i think) that holds the speakers down. Just unbolt it and you could take it off. Oh yea..remember to unplug the speaker wires too when you're in the turnk....
good luck....

I had the same problem installing new 6x9's that were too deep for the sway bars in the trunk. My Boston's came with a 6x9 mounting ring that I placed between the speaker itself and the rear deck and that gave me enough clearance for the sway bars in the trunk. But then the stock speaker screws were not long enough. Fortunately the local Home Depot had longer screws that fit perfectly even with the same threads. They had an allen wrench style head instead of a flat/philips type head though. And the speaker grill barely fits back on, but it does. The Home Depot also had some carpet samples that were almost identical to our carpet on the rear deck. So I stuffed some between the deck and rear window to eliminate some rattling I was getting from my sub. Couldn't be happier now. If you need more info on the screws, I can provide the exact type. Let me know. Late.
well, yah i put in the 6X9's, because i do feel sorry for the rear seat passengers, when all they hear is BOOM BOOOOOOOM, BOOM BOOOOOOOOM, BOOOOOOOOOOOOM. a 1200 watt 15'll do that. anywho, the speakers fit almost prefectly, sound great, but i do not believe the screws fit the holes just right. does this sound common? only two of the screws pass thru the speakers into the holes below, and one on each speaker works itself loose, and i get a pain-in-the ass ringing when the bass hits. basically, my question is: will only one screw holding down the speaker cause any kind of trouble? i don't think it would, but, ya never know...
