neon lights in trunk
#7
yes, all you have to do is run one of the wires from the trunk light to the neon. this means cutting it. run to neon, then back to the other half of the cut wire, so u complete the circuit. of course, this would look best if you disable the trunk light altogether...! i did this in my old honda civic, but havent gotten to that part of my current install yet.

woo hoo just installed a 10 inch blue neon light in the trunk. took me like ten minutes. just tapped into the existing light ( took out the light bulb so i won't overload the fuse) and vo la. it's still bright as heck outside so i'm not sure how it looks, but i did take a look at it through the ski hole thingy and it looks tight. spent about 10 bucks for the neon at walmart. one of the fastest mods i've ever done.

well for my car there are two wires going to the trunk light. so i basically stripped the wires on the neon and went ahead and tested it on the light bulb housing thing without stripping the wires for the trunk lights so i would know which wires go with which. if you got it right, the neon should turn on, if not, your car will explode!!! j/k hehe. if not, nothing will happen. after you figure it out, just tap into those wires adn there you go.

I installed two 10" purple neon bulbs ($10 ar Walmart) in my trunk. One on each side of the trunk. I am thinking of adding a third, basically in the spot the trunk light is. I cut the cigarette lighter plugs off each, then connected one to the other with Archer Tap-In Squeeze Connectors (from Radio Shack), and then added a male quick - disconnect to those two wires. I cut the wire going to the trunk light, insulated the end attached to the trunk light so it wouldn't corrode, and added the female quick - disconnect to those two wires. Plugged one male into a female, then the other male into the other female and BOOM!! , er, I mean, the neons came on. As you all know, it's hard to take pictures of lights, but I hope these give you some idea.

looking good man. hehe i got my neons at walmart too. it's so cheap there!! i only have one neon in the back and i re-located it to where the ski hole thing is cause the double sided tape didn't hold up too well so i had to zip tie it to some wires. what did you use to keep it on the sides?

unx979, I knew I would forget at least one thing. haha I used small screws, in the holes that were on each end of the light housing. I screwed them into the plastic. It won't hurt them at all. I may use the velcro provided with the lights if I install a third, or zip-ties.
I chose the purple to provide more light, with a slight purple tone. For the interior, I have more purplish - black lights, still needing to be installed... just trying to figure out the best way.

looks good. but to safe, you should hook the lights to a relay. it might work good now but you might run into problems later cause u'r probably drawing too much current. email me if you need help on relays.

I installed 4 neons in my trunk. I took power and ground from the trunk light and removed the factory bulb. Its been that way for a while and I dont think it should cause damage because how long can you keep you trunk open? Aiznpride is right though, if you wanna be safe, use a relay. Its very simple to hook up. You just have to hide it somewhere. Heres a pic of my trunk. Theres 2 neons in the front and 2 on the side.
