Need Subwoofer Opinions
Ok, I am trying to decide on a course of action for subs. It has been about 10 years since I had a vehicle with a trunk. I have had trucks or suvs. I have got a 10" Kicker L7 that I was going to have installed but, now I am wondering if that would put out enough bass being in the trunk. I am thinking about going with a pair of Alpine 12" Type R's instead. I need some advice and maybe some examples of what people are using. I want sound quality first and foremost but, I want to be able to crank up the bass and rattle the teeth. I just am not sure if the 10" Kicker, which will pound like mad in a SUV, will be enough in trunk, having to pass thru into the cabin.

I guess I should have been more specific. I am not looking for brand recommendations so much. I am either going with the one 10" Kicker square or a pair of Alpine 12" Type R's. My question I guess should be, will one 10" square be enough bass to fire into the cabin or should I use the Alpine's. I will be using around 600 watts @ 2ohm. I hope that is more specific. Thanks.

hey again x2. It does require I alot more power in a trunk then a truck or suv. In my lil sisters RSX I put one fosgate HE2 10 and it pounds. I use to have one Alpine type R with fosgate punch 500s and it sounded nice, but not enough bass. Now I got a single Kicker Solobaric L5 12 wit Fosgate Power 550s and It pounds and yes teeth do rattle.
If I had the room and willing to get a stronger amp I would get 2 type R's. The Type R 12's say 300 watts RMS and thats just BS. I first had a 400s to my type R and they 500s and thats 500 cleans watts without any distortion. I have a friend wit a s2000 with one R 12 dual ohm voice coil and has a MRD300 amp to each coil.
Keep me posted on your choice.
Try out that one kicker 10 first though

thanks dnd. i tell you what, decisions, decisions. it can drive you crazy, in a good way, hehe. i think as soon as i finish up the kick panels, i will do a temp install with the 10" and see how it does. if it works out then, i will worry about a nice new box for it. i know the 2 12" Type R's should be plenty of bass. i just hate to buy something if i do not need it. i will keep everyone updated.
the kick panels are coming along. last night, i covered one of them in the polyester fleece and covered it with resin to harden. i am going to check it this morning before i head to work. this was not any easy step. i only did one of the panels just in case it did not work. if it did work, i should be able to finish up the other tonight and hopefully do a test run tomorrow on how they sound. the last step will be to cover them in carpet, vinyl or paint. here's hoping.
