Need a Shallow Mount Sub
Need a Shallow Mount Sub
I am needing some advice. I am looking for a 10" sub with a mounting depth of know more than 5.25" that will work in around .5 cubic feet. I have a Boston Pro 10.5 now and I do not like the way it sounds, too muddy. I have found the Image Dynamics IDQ, Arc Audio 10D and the Adire Koda. Anyone know of any others that provide top notch SQ with some good bass impact. I have either 250 watts @ 4 ohm or 500 @ 2 ohm. Thanks.
That pioneer shallow sub, believe it or not, is actually pretty decent (I am by no means a pioneer speaker guy, not my thing, but, that sub sounds pretty good for what it is). If the DLS isn't shallow enough, I have a Critical Mass 10" sub that will blow you away and is within your specs.
Blaupunkt has a flat-piston woofer too : )
It really doesn't sound like you need a shallow woofer, you need a woofer of *normal* proportions - as opposed to the huge frame trend.
I really like the sound of the DLS products.I had never heard of them until tuan209 mentioned them to me. (and I thought I knew everything - hah! : )
I checked their booth out at CES and listened to a Hyundai Tiburon with two 10s, 2 6", and 3" dome mids and tweets in little tliny kick panels. Two 5-channel amps running in 4-channel mode - not THAT much power. Thing was sweet. My install manager was the their Euro IASCA champion car - an A4 with a very trick install, and he loved that one.
I'm actually very surprised at how many products these guys make. I was skeptical of their coaxes, but my Nakamichi 6" coaxes were back-ordered and I got some of theirs for the meantime. A $100 retail coax has a titanium tweeter (not a silver-lloking plastic one, a real metal dome!) and an external xover (shrink-wrapped, not in a metal box, but still!) And it sound better than the $160 a pair Pioneer Coaxes I had in the board as a stopgap.
So I think I might use their coaxes now too...
They make some SPL-oriented stuff but I'm not bringing it in... and they have a freeair 10" too. Wish they had a freeair 8" for the TL guys : )

Derrick,
So far so good. They are still playing loud as ever and I live here in FL where it's sunny all the damn time. Had them since December so not all that LONG, but still 6 months and no problems yet.. KNOCK KNOCK.
I have the 6.3 Ultimates Iridium 3ways. They are wonderful. the 6.5" is in the door factory location.. The 3" is in the kick panel and the tweeter is in the dash as you know. Sound is amazing IMO.

Little late to the thread.
Hey AcuraX2, the DLS sub I've got that eldude mention is fantasic. I've tuned it for SQ, meaning more for bass guitars and not for "welcome to atlanta" punch you in the gut bass. Though, when asked to, the sub will handle the "let the bass drop" tracks nicely when adequately tuned to do so. Though I think it prefers Jazz.
Can't really adequately describe how nice it is to hear the plucking of the bass guitar and know that yes, that's what it's supposed to sound like in the arrangement. It's an awesome thing.
But if you're still looking for a sub to meet your requirements, maybe check out these Altos. Can't say that I've heard them in person, but the shop that did my install (but recommended the DLS for me) said that the those Falstaffs were pretty good.
