Need new speakers badly

So, I just installed a new head unit in my 2003 TL Type S, a Pioneer 4300DVD and it looks great, except the stock Bose speakers can't handle it. Once the volume is turned up the speakers get fuzzy and can't handle the bass. So now I've pretty much decided I need new speakers but according to crutchfield the selection is pretty slim. I haven't taken of the door panels yet (nor do I want to until I'm at the point of installing the speakers). So what I was wondering is for those of you that have pulled the door panels or installed new speakers is:
- What are the space options like inside? Would it be fairly easy to make some space for bigger speakers? I'd ideally like to put a pair of 6 x 9's in the rear doors but I have a feeling that would be fairly difficult.
- Are there speakers that you KNOW will fit that crutchfield doesn't have or say won't fit. I'm personally a fan of Pioneers but thats just personal preference.

Any info you guys have would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

First of all, do yourself a favor and take 1 door panel off (front pass side)... From there you will see that space options are limited to say the least. If you want a good, loud front stage, just get comps and dont worry about replacing anything in the back. And no, 6by9s will not fit... for sure, unless you decide to cut the metal in the door.

First, have you tried messing around with the settings. Try setting the high pass filter. Your speakers arent going to play bass like a subwoofer. Mess around with the eq as well. I have the EQ on my headunit flat and i love how it sounds.

You can use other size speakers if you have adapters, or you can make rings.

Why would you want to put 6x9s in the rear door?

Yea, I've messed with the settings still no luck, but I'd try those out. I wanted the 6x9's because I have them from my old car and I really like the quality of sound that I got from them. I'm going to put new speakers in anyways so suggestions are welcome

I have the same problem. I just installed my Sony XAV-622 and my bose speakers can't handle it. Why? The new head unit has more watts for the bose to handle? or??

I hope you guys are disabling and removing the stock BOSE EQ from the system when you are replacing the deck.

I don't know. Should I ask the shop if they did that? Or do I have to do that before they installed the head unit?

I had a shop put in the HU for me and to my knowledge didn't bypass the EQ, after reading some stuff around here it seems necessary, especially if new speakers are going in. How might you bypass it if the new HU is simply hooked up using a metra wiring harness connected from the HU to the cars existing wiring harness with a hardline RCA connection from the HU to the stock BOSE amp?

The metra harness bypasses the Bose EQ to my knowledge.

The stock Bose amp is for the sub only... in any decent audio build it will be going bye-bye right along with the factory sub.

Thats good to know, now I don't need to rip apart the center console.

As for the stock sub, it seems to hit well enough for my standards being powered by the stock amp. Any suggestions on the speakers to put in? I'd like ones that have a tweeter thats attached to the cone.

I'm going to disregard the comment about a tweeter that is attached to the cone as that is a whizzer cone.

Buy woofers that will fit the door, possibly Dayton RS150's or RS180's. You might also be able to fit a Peerless 5 1/4" in there. For tweeters, install a small set in the A-pillar. I had decent luck with the Dayton ND20FA. Run these active off a processor, time align the best you can and that's your front stage.

For the sub, honestly there are hundreds of sub brands and models that will work well when it comes to just reinforcement of a couple octaves of the sound spectrum. The box matters more than the sub really, so who's going to build it? Can you fabricate? Or would you be better off hiring a pro?
