Need info on CD/MP3 changer RF

Hey guys,

I'm about to rip out the HU from 2000TL, I cant stand it anymore. The way it plays burnt CD-Rs it is extremely frustrating. Sometimes it plays, sometimes it gives me the finger.

Since I'm a little tight on cash, I can spend top 200-300 bux, I was thinking about getting a changer that plays CD-R/RW and MP3s thru RF (FM).

If anyone knows how is the quality of such a changer, or can advice me on a better investment for my limited amount of cash...please suggest.

Thanx.

this is odd that so many people have problems with the CDRs. i have never ever had a problem in any cd player i have ever owned. old discmans, old pioneer cd changers. never. oh well, enough about me.....

RF changers are a good alternative but will not offer the top quality sound you get from a hardwired unit. if this doesn't bother you, then go RF. personally i think they sound very good, just not 100%.

for less than $300 you can buy a used alpine on ebay that plays MP3s (or any other brand of choice). the dash kit is $20. i would say you should do something more along those lines. now if you really want to keep the stock look and MP3s don't matter to you, then just get the RF changer. i know you can pick them up for fairly cheap.

OR buy a blitzsafe and hook up an alpine MP3 6 disc changer (around $300) and keep the best of both worlds. just a thought.....

If you going with a cd changer/FM modular it will have FM sound quality.

I recommend you buy a blitzsafe adapter and compatible cd changer. http://www.logjamelectronics.com/blitzhonalpdmxv1.html

on the same page, they give you which CD changer are compatible with it. I recommend the Alpine CHA-S634 6 disc cd/mp3 changer. The other plus side is that you can change the CD changer from the steering wheel control/HU controls.

If you go with a FM mod cd changer. You won't be able to do this and must run a hardwired remote. Plus you won't lose sound quality as much as you would with a FM mod cd changer.

quick question, so you are saying if i get the blitzsafe adapter, i will be able to change the between CDs using the wheel's controls??? How does that work switching between the CDs?

Also, I want more MP3 capable changer, but our HU dont read mp3 text...so thats another dilemma, i rather have an mp3 source rather than switching CDs constantly.

But i have to get something soon before i go insane with the TL's HU.

hzm82 that setup that you've recommended me is nice, however, our HU cant read text or mp3 tags.....so it kinda defeats the purpose of mp3 capability if you cant browse thru folders or files.

To switch over the cd changer, you press CD button twice (press the CD button again to switch back to the HU CD). When you are in the CD changer mode you can press between #1-6 buttons to switch between the 6 cds. You can use the Steering wheel controls to switch to the next song and raise the vol. I know the HU doesn't read mp3 text.....it's just something you have to live with. I have most of my fav songs located in the front but usually I have it on shuffle mode, anyways.

If you just want a mp3 source. Just buy a blitzsafe aux adapter. You can input an iPOD or any other portable mp3 player.

If you have money to burn. You can get a 20 gig iPOD for $300 then buy Icelink $200-$250. Icelink works like the blitzsafe aux adapter but you can change the iPOD songs using the steering wheel control.

If you don't like any of these ideas. You can always get a new HU or HU + CD changer.

I don't recommend FM mod. (RF) CD changer because you can really tell the difference in sound quality.
