Need help tracking down speaker noise.

What started out as wanting a bit more bass from my 08 TSX has turned into a nightmare. As it stands right now I'm running the factory rear speaker wires through a wiring adapter into an Audio Control LC2i. From there I'm running from the main output of the LC2i into a small Alpine amp. I replaced the factory 6x9s with a set of Infinity Kappa 692.9i's. The amp is rated at 45w RMS per channel. The speakers are rated at 110w RMS.

Here's the problem. When I run them at low volume, say 6-10, it sounds like the speakers are badly blown. But as you up the volume it gets cleaner. I've redone every connection in the system from the speaker adapters to the speakers.

Any thoughts?

Not sure what you meant by running through a wiring adapter. Maybe like a wiring harness? Either way, the audio control box usually require that you run the wires straight from the factory amp into it. However, it sounds like a audio level issue. I would play around with the gains on the audio control box. and be sure you factory unit has the fade around the middle or closer to the rear to boost that signal then lean the gain out on your amp. In some odd cases, your car may be equipped with noise cancelling components. I dont know if yours has that, but they can cause weird issues.

Think I figured it out. Seems the Infinity's were blown. Replaced them with a set of Kicker CS694's. After I adjusted everything, it sounds great!

LMAO, so you mean that your blown speakers sounded like blown speakers?!?!?
My first thoughts were under a certain volume, your signal was too low causing them to clip. Could it be that they were more power hungry?

I don't think so. I tried bridging the amp which brings power up to 90 watts rms (according to the manufacturer anyway) and there was no change. The speakers are rated at 110 watts rms, so not sure why they were blown, unless they were like that when I got them. I didn't buy them from an authorized dealer and they've been sitting in my closet for a year and a half.
