All,
I had posted in the Navi to Video sticky a while back that I had found a co. in Austrailia that sells a Composite to RGB decoder... I ordered one and just got around to installing it...AND IT WORKS GREAT!!!!
The part cost $125 USD, I spent $30 to get it here quick and another $20 at Radio Hack for some real simple switching relays and a board and project box. The company was great to deal with and accepts PayPal at a 4% charge, kept in good communication with me since I was a little skeptical at first.
The part comes as a fully assembled board with all connectors but no enclosure. I made a relay board so I could mount a small switch up front in the console to switch between the Nav and Aux input (in my case a Pioneer DVD Changer and a crappy Anaba tuner) Just had to give the box power through the supplied connector (pulled off of nav harness) and splice into 4 wires off the back of the Nav harness. It took less than 1 hour to install including mounting the switch and making the splices. Putting the board and relays in the box NEATLY took about 2 hours.
The really great thing about this is that the board has pots so you can adjust the colors, hue, all that stuff....but I didn't have to! It was right on the money out of the box!
I cant seem to find my digital camera but i will post pics next week somehow
The link to the site seems to have changed in the past few weeks, it used to be www.converters-tv.au but it redirects me to their main site, highwaygames.com. They have a converter shown under the converters section but is not what I used and is more expensive. Your best bet would be to drop an e-mail to the salesperson I dealt with, Steve, at sales@converters.tv I hope it still works.
Just drop him an e-mail and someone should get back to you soon (remember there is a huge time difference in AU) They were very helpful, just tell them you want the Video to RGB converter board that costs $125. I only ordered mine a month ago, it came in 4 days with the $30 shipping (2-4 weeks for $15)
Special thanks to whoever posted that step by step with the pictures and Nav wiring connector diagrams...typesdragoon I think.. the link is somewhere in the sticky thread
Will post pics soon....Thanks again for the help!!

How did you supply power to this? The #42 does not have a power connector, did you get the #43?
Thanks, e_lectro

it was supplied with a round style connector like you would see on an AC adaptor or similar. I will get some pics out when I find my CF card, hopefully today. sorry if I double post here i am having PC problems and dont know if my replies are gettin through
Ok, so it was the #43 you got, not the #42. The #42 has no power connector. Jst want to make that clear before anyone rushes out to buy the wrong thing.
Here is a pic of the #43:

That's the one!! Good lookin out, I didn't realize they had another similar product. I received an email from a salesman there and they said they had them in stock and ready to ship. I spent $31 to have it shipped, ordered on a Thursday and had it Monday afternoon....regular shipping was $15 and 2-4 weeks. Not a bad deal....

Got my Blitzsafe stuff in yesterday...its Awesome!!! Holy SH!T what a difference in sound from the FM Modulators!!! It was real easy to install, and, since I have had my interion apart 20 times already, I knew where the port was on the deck and didn't even have to pull the deck to make the connection.
I have a 2002 TL-S Nav with the in dash changer. The Blitz adapter gave me an aux input to the factory deck via RCA connectors. I have a DVD changer and a Pioneer XM add-on unit, and I ran the audio from both through an A/B switch for now. I also purchased (from Blitzsafe) an XM-to-RCA adapter that plugs into the XM units IP Bus Output port and gives me real audio outputs (RCAs).
So for now I have a P.O.S. Radio Hack A/B switch to handle the switching, I am looking for something that is triggered by a 12V signal that can switch RCA inputs for me. THere is a company called David Navone Engineering and they have something that will do it. I can take the 12V switching trigger and tie it into my XM unit somehow, so when I power up the XM it switches automatically to the XM audio. I will still need to press the CD button on my deck twice to get this to work. But the Blitzsafe adapters really made my install complete, and eliminated the need to tune to different stations for both my audio devices...Not to mention the sound is great!!! No more clipping and distortion of the high frequencies any more!!!
Just thought I'd share my experience for anyone interested in this type of setup...By the way the whole Blitzsafe setup (XM adapter and AUX input) was $108 shipped to my door, I ordered it Tuesday night and had it UPS ground (from Jersey to Philly) by Thursday AM. I dealt with Blitzsafe direct, there # is buried in a thread elswhere in this forum (one that is turning not-so-nice and with good reason).
Thanks to all out there that have posted all the useful info I used to put my system together!!!

OK, I know I can go on typing for hours but one more thing that StrretEffectz brought up in my discussion of this in the CL forum...
I in no way meant to mislead anyone with my title of this thread. The RGB converter I described is not plun-n-play, it is meant for the do it yourselfer who doesnt want to tear into a GEX P7000TV or such expensive piece of equipment to mod it. The units you get from StreetEffectz are complete plug and play units with TV tuners, AV switches, and backup camer inputs. So just thought i'd clear that up....

Hey moat, I got my converter as was checking out the wiring, and wondered what you did with the video signal ground connector. Did you leave it unhooked, hard connect it to the navi connector, or switch it via relay as well?
I start wiring tonight, so I thought I'd ask in advance!

I did not connect the black wire off the RGB converter to anything. I used the power and ground going into the Nav unit for my supply.
A question for someone out there--I used the power from my Nav unit to pick up my video switching relays. They are 2 DPDT mini relays, and when I drop them out i sometimes get a slight popping sound through the DVD audio. The RGB converter has no attachment to the audio other than the DVD power connections, is this some sort of spike from the relay coils de-energizing??? Would a diode across the relay coils cure this???
Thanks,
Mark
e_lectro,
check you PM
