Navi Hacks?

Has anyone been able to do any interesting hacks to the Navi?

It seems like there should be some way to change it or possibly use the display for other purposes.

BTW: I love the Navi and don't want to disable it for any reason!

I have the '99, which has the hard drive based unit. I have been able to take the hard drive out and put it in my laptop! It is a pcmcia type hard drive, just plug it in and browse the files!

I can see some are configuration files with some setup parameters. I was able to find the warning message that comes up for you to press "ok" when the unit starts up. I changed the message but it did not appear on the screen. Perhaps there is some other switch to flip to get the unit to re-read the hard drive?

Thanks!

Using Pioneer parts I've engineered ways to place video (NTSC composite) on Navigation screen. You can read the instructions here on how to do-it-yourself using a switch to change between factory navigation display and video.

I am VERY interested in how to do this! There was no link in your reply. Is it on the acura-tl site?

Any Additional Info?

Thanks for the tips on the navi video. I will be trying this out.

Any other computer type hacks known for the navi?

There are very interesting things in the files of the navi. Especially ILKA2.ALP

Since my navi is DVD based, I havent tried to mess with it. Maybe once I get a DVD burner, I 'll try.

But have you tried fully reseting the navigation unit after modifying the files? Maybe disconnect the battery so you can have it resync with the the whole system (have your code ready) may do the trick.

Maybe worth a shot.

Good idea! I'll try that.

Have you tried putting your DVD into a PC and seeing what's on it?
