NAVI Conversion!

Just got off the phone with Sam. My NAVI conversion will ship Monday. Just for planning purposes, is everyone picking up power from the fuse panel or utilizing the aux cig lighter power in the storage compartment? Do you need to run power back to the truck for the conversion box or can you tap off the power to the NAV/DVD player in the trunk? Is the center console the only item you need to open up in order to install the blitzsafe adapter other thatn running cables and power to the DVD player I plan on installing under the seat. I've read the driver's side is the best way to get at the harness. I'm assuming the two screws along the bottom side of the storage compartment are the place to start for access to the side panels of the head unit?? Am I on the right track here?

1. I think that Sam's plug and play unit plugs into the power at the navi unit in the trunk (hence plug and play).

2. You can plug in the blitzsafe without taking off the headunit. Just remove the side panels and you can reach the back of the headunit to plug it in. I haven't accessed it in a while but I beleive that you just open the center console and pull up on the side trim pieces (blckwood/burlwood/alumimum). You will then see some screws that you can remove to take the side panels off.

NAV convertor

I tapped the power from the fuse box. You'll have to splice wires to tap from the NAV unit; the connectors to the NAV unit are only for the picture signal. To install the blitz adaptor, I had to take the panelling off the pasenger side of the center console- plastic and wood trip. I read that it may be easier to access from the driver side. I ran all of the wires from the front to the trunk using typesdragoons instructions. what dvd player are you getting and will it fit under the seat? Im still looking for a dvd player.

Navi Power

I'm thinking of bringing power in from the battery and running it through a relay controlled by the ignition. Since the "Sam's Box" and DVD player are both going to require power. Additioinally, I'm sure I'll have another LCD display or two that will require power in the near future as well.

I haven't decided on a DVD player either. I'm still looking online. I want to be able to play MP3s also. If the PS2 played MP3s I'd utilize that for my DVD player. I'm going to stop by Circuit City tonight and see what they have.

My Sam's unit is supposed to ship today. I should have my car torn apart by the weekend.

Navi Conversion Install

I installed my Navi Conversion installed today. The whole thing took about 2 1/2 hours to install. The only thing I had to go buy was a stereo headphone plug to RCA connector to feed the Blitzsafe. TV mode looks great and DVD playback looks good from my laptop. I haven't bought a DVD player for the car yet. We'll see how it fares on the road tomorrow.
