Muting the Stereo

I wonder why the mute line has been so elusive to TSX owners? Ideally, when I go bluetooth in the TSX, I want the built-in ability for these systems to mute the stereo when a call comes in... to work!

But, no one yet has been able to really figure this out... which is esp. weird since the NAVI system clearly does this and that's external to the stereo.

Has anyone figured out the mute line so my future BT kit can shut up the stereo?

Jon

The navigation system has a specific wire from the harness called an Audio Mute wire. That is hooked up to the stereo through its audio mute wire. that is how it works. it also work the same way for voice activation. if you could find a bluetooth adapter made for your specific requirement, then it will work. you would have to find the proper wires going into the stereo and tap into them using a relay setup. but you should find a bluetooth adapter first

I'm eyeing the Sony/Ericsson or the Parrot CK3000. Either has mute possibilities, but neither have cables/connectors compatible with the TSX system. Can you simply splice the mute line from the BT kit into the stereo's mute line?

For the same reason why I want bluetooth vs. just picking up the phone. Total automation is 1) safer 2) cooler 3) advancing the state-of-the-art

Other than that, no particular reason.

I have been looking at the same systems. Parrot does offer a connector for all Honda and Acura radios. Has anyone install either of these? I like the Parrot CK3100 better, but I am not sure were the caller Id screen should go. It would be nice to fab it into the dash below the HVAC controls. Easy operations during shifting!!!!!

Acutally the mute wire has been found.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ight=bluetooth

It's pin #14 on the harness to the radio. The stereo will be muted when +12v is sent to this pin. I've personally tested it myself and it works!

It's tricky though because I have the nokia 112k bluetooth car kit and that kit does it fact have a mute wire. There are a couple of problems with the mute wires on the car kits though.
1) It's signal is inverted. It puts on positive volts when the phone is not being used and drops to 0 or ground when the phone is in use. You can solve this problem by using a relay.
2) It's signal is not strong enough to drive a relay directly. You need another piece that will help amplify the wire signal and drive the relay.

Other than that it is very doable. In fact, when I do apart my center console I ran an extra wire to that pin just for future use, so I wouldn't have to go in there if I need it later. For my muting....I ended up getting the Pioneer N1 and that deck does have a mute wire that follows the same standards as the bluetooth car kits. So all I had to do was hook up the nokia mute wire directly to the Pioneer Mute wire in and everything was taken care of!

Let me know if you guys have questions. I got very close to finding a solution just before I got the N1.

To elaborate, the mute wire is missing, but the open pin works. Don't remember the thread...

What the car really needs is a mute button on the steering wheel controls.

The OEs seemed to get rid of the MUTE button when they have a real volume knob... not that I don't agree with ya, but I haven't seen it on any OE radio except a few with volume + - buttons.

help!

I was hoping someone could help me out with this situation. I am looking for the wire in my 04 TSX with Nav that sends eaither a negative or positive output when the navi voice comes on. I want to use this output to trigger something so when the navi begins to speak the directions it can trigger something and when its done it will revert back. I dont think I am looking for the mute wire but I might be wrong. Basically it is what ever triggers the volume to lower when the navi speaks during routing. I am an installer at Best Buy so i know technical terms if you need to use them. Thank you for your time I am very interested in hearing from you.
