Mute wire and pin counting
Does anyone know if the factory head unit has a mute wire?
I heard that pin #14 on the harness that plugs into the factory deck will mute the radio if given a +12V signal.
Does anyone know if this is true? I have been having trouble getting the radio to mute.
I am wondering if I am counting the pins incorrectly
How are pins using counted? I heard that I hold the wire side with the harness lock facing up. And count left to right.

I noticed that the 20 pin plug that goes into the Factory deck actually plugs in with the locking connector side down. So when I count the pins I have to flip the connector upside down and look from the wire side. I'm just wondering if I'm going wrong somewhere.
Does anyone know where I can get a pin to stick in the factory 20 pin harness?

14 is the only missing pin on the connector. That should help you on that part. As for getting a pin, go to a car stereo shop, and ask for a "reverse" honda connector. Most of the connectors that they will have are to have a non-stock radio plug into a stock wireing harness. The reverse allows you to plug a factory honda radio into a non-honda. So, it emulates that same harness. (They are female pins) Therefore, it is full of pins that will just slide into the factory harness.

On the non navi unit there is a lot more than just 1 missing pin.
That is why I'm having so much trouble with it.

Okay, let me see if this will help?
pin #1 is yellow/green
pin#20 is black
Pin #11 in Brown
Pin#10 is White/blue
It goes across
1 2 3 4 ...
11 12 13 14
that should help you ID the pin. Lastly, it looks like 12 and 13 are for the navigation.

Dang that sucks man....I'm not surprised though.
When you start asking about specific technical details, then it's hard to find people who "really" know what's going on. I'm asking a bunch of the car stereo shops about the mute wire on the factory deck and they have no idea! They seem to barely know anything about the TSX.

Did you find the reverse wire harness at a major store like Circuit city, good guys, best buy?
Or did you have to find a custom store. Also. I guess that I could just use any model honda harness, correct? Since, I just need one pin then I want to just find the cheapest one.

Thanks Smileyw. I ended up just sticking a standard wire in there without a connector. I taped it to the harness and it still works great!
