Metra Kit / Alpine wont mount flush..HELP

Hey all, I'm mounting my alpine head unit in the metra kit for the 02 tls. It fits in ok and the head unit metal backet locks in. the only problem is that it sits about 1/4inch too deep in the metra kit. it's way below being flush with the front. If I try and shim it out so it doesn't sit so deep the metal spring tabs no longer will be able to hold it in. I read another post where someone else was complaining of the same thing but he never got an answer, so I'm hoping someone here will have a solution since I assume most of you are using alpine replacement head units. Help.
thanks,
Chris

does it still sit too deep when you put your little trim piece on? I also have an Alpine and mine sits fine...

There are two trim pieces. one from alpine and one little ring that came with the metra kit. The ring with the metra kit wont fit around my stereo. it's too small. The 1/4 inch I was measuring is actually more like a half inch. It's measured after I have the trim ring inplace from alpine.
I have a 7893 head unit. i dont know whats up with it.

Go to a stereo shop and ask for a 1/4 inch trim ring and you should be flush.
