Metra 95-7868b DD dash kit, anyone have it yet?

So I know another member posted he got his kit from metra and was going to post pics of it installed, but that thread seems to have vanished overnight. He said he paid $35? shipped, and he was thinking of doing a group buy if people were interested.
So has anyone gotten this kit yet? If so, how much did you pay, and where did you get it?

I got mine a week ago, only 1 place carried it, and it was $43 shipped.
First thing I noticed was the oem like texture and color, unlike their single din kit that was shiny and roughly textured and stuck out like a sore thumb.
The bad part was that the top and bottom trim piece area's were both bowed in leaving an ugly gap between the trim ring and the dash kit, and also between the dask kit and the storage compartment above the radio, on the dash.

If anyone has gotten this kit, are you experiencing the same problem?

I'm thinking of returning it for another one, and hopefully I just got that one off that wasn't molded right or warped or something.

edit: dash, not 'dask'

Also, minor thing that was not an issue with the single din kit;the holes in the brackets used to be tapered to accept the small mounting screws that come with the cd unit, on the new brackets, they're not.The screws won't sit flush, and actually won't even go through the bracket and into the cd unit.

Nice find! I've been looking for that, I didn't feel like paying $200 for a custom made one.

Hey I am the one that order it from metra. I am not going to do a group buy now on them. i didn't read the rules on the group buy thing so they delete both post which i understand why and all. It would be too many fees and hassle to set it up. I was just trying to help everyone out. I am still thinking about sell them on ebay but i dont know. I still have not got it installed yet. I am still waiting on the cd tray holder thing above the radio before i install it. I brought the cd tray holder from a member on here. I will post picture ones i get it in.

You can easily fix that by using a large AND sharp drill bit on the hole. Do it by hand so you don't accidentally drill through the plastic. The sharp, tapered end of the drill bit should taper the hole just right.

8800honda: yeah I thought it was erased, because i couldn't find it anywhere, and non of the links to the thread worked.
You should open your bag and look at the kit, and see if the trim piece if noticeably bowed. Or use a straight edge next to it and see if either piece is curved at all. If yours looks ok, I'm gonna go ahead and return mine for another one.
Did you say you got it FROM metra? as in you called them and bought it straight from them?

cl-slick: yeah, I owned a 90, and a 93 (in my avatar)

g-faze: I was gonna just usea small set of files but I think I'm gonna try your idea instead, thanks

I looked at mine and it looks all straight and everything. I am planning on let my installers at my work do it on Wednesday. What radio do you have? I will post picture after it is done. I have been email a guy from metra for like two months now so he let me buy it straight from them Shipped in a metra box and everything. I was luck and got real cool with the sale reps and he shipped me one lol

oh ok, so maybe I did get a faulty kit.
Mine, I could tell before I even put the deck in, that it was shaped weird.
Yeah, I called those guys several times, most guys were trying to be helpful, 1 guy was really cool, and 1 just seemed like he was just there for a paycheck, now so much customer service oriented as the other guys. I wish I was able to have gotten mine straight from there. Mine was $43 shipped.

I have a kenwood DNX8120

I have the same kit. I think it looks great except I had the same problem with the bowing, but only at the top. I corrected it by cutting off the tabs from the above cd pocket and folding up a piece of cloth until it was thick enough to raise the bowed section. Then I just stuck it in between the top of the radio and the bowed section of the kit. It raised up nicely and held in place (You can't see it at all because its behind the ISO Insert). Then I installed the pocket on top - No more gap! I installed a Pioneer Avic - 700BT and the screws on the sides fit nicely - I only used 2 though.

kingpin- where did you buy your kit? any pics of yours installed?

I'm trying to decide on if I should pay to ship the kit back for an exchange. If others kits are not having the same problem, then I'll do it, but if they're all coming like that from metra, it'd be pointless to exchange for another one that will have the same defect.

8800honda- I got the kit from installer.com and my kenwood on ebay.
I had an avic z2 for a little bit, and before that I really wanted the d3, then the F series was released, and I liked them, but I didn't get it because of all the problems that a lot of users were reporting.

WHAT!!! Gold Plated I Assume

get a metra 99-7868 (25$) and cut the pocket out, Make a trim plate using ABS Grid PLate and wrap in your favourite color. I have 4 different ones and I switch them up from show to show. I have a red, blue, black and silver carbon fibre trim plate.
Slow day at the shop??? Make a new trim plate!

audiovibe- do you have pics of your dash? Also, when cutting up the single din kit, how did you mount the deck? I would think the single din brackets wouldn't work when trying to mount a dd deck, after the center slot if cut up.

Just fit the pioneer D3 in her new home

I see a little bow above the radio. I guessing it was a factory defect

Here her all finish and all

sorry about the picture. I took them with my Q9c pda phone. I like it so far. I want to wait till i see it in daylight. The gap will drive me crazy but it was better then my last home made kit lol.

You can see my silver trim plate here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2984412
right now I'm rocking blue tho!

edit: wow those pics are old I don't even have that deck in my acura anymore. I need to update my pics.

The deck was mounted with 8mm screws using existing holes in the metal bracket of the acura, that luckily happened to line up pretty damn good without any modifications.

Basically with the metra part the deck will sit a little 'flusher' than with the custom plate method and the color also matches very nice. I just like custom tho..... as im sure you can tell by looking at my car.

Here is a pic of mines installed.

Notice the bowing on top of the dash kit. I think it's a factory defect. Probably will happen on all of the kits.

Your local stereo shop should be able to order it for you and yes there is a slight bow at the top but take a little glue from behind and glue the 2 pieces together. Better than paying 200 bucks. Distortedolskool just installed his and it looks great. The kit should be 19-25 bucks depending on the shop.

yep just a dab of epoxy fixed the top bow. as for the bottom bow i'm not quite sure yet. i also noticed some others had issues with the screw holes aligning. i had to trim some of the sides out for the screws.
