MBQuart or JL Audio

Question to all you subs experts!!

I'm considering to purchase a pair of MBQuart 12 inch (model: DVC) or JL Audio 12 inch (model: W6). First of all, is two 12" for 2nd generation CLS too much ??? It would take about half of my trunk space but I'm willing to go for that if it would give me MUCH better sound than single sub. I don't know much about MBQuart but a member of this site is selling a pair. As far as JL audio, a friend of mine recently purchase 12 inch W3V2 and I love his!!! What's the main difference between 12 inch W6 and 12 inch W6v2?? just a new model?? b/c according to their website W6 is discontinued. Also, if you can tell me any difference between W6 and W3vs, that would help me ALOT too. Thanks in advance!

well I dont know much about MBQuart subs, but for the JL's - the W6 and W3V2 are similar, while the W3V2 has slightly more excursion capabilities - can play louder and handle more power than the older W6. Now there is a pretty large difference between the W6 and W6V2 - more sound capabilities and power handling. Though the difference between teh W6V2 and W3V2 is minimal - that is why JL sells way more of the new W3's vs. the new W6's. IF you want extreme loud, get the W7.

A rule of thumb is 1 12W7 in a ported box can play nearly as loud as 3 12inch W3V2's.

2 subs wont be too much at all - are you planing on a ported or sealed box? I have my 2 subs in a sealed box - only about 2 cubic feet total and it pounds real hard - and doesnt take up much trunk space. If you want a sealed box, the box will be much larger. I would say you could do 1 12W3V2 in a ported box and you would be able to save some space and it would still pound real good.

JL is way beyond MBQ in subs, all the MBQs are really done by Rockford. Not a fair comparison, I'm afraid.

Well, only thing that's holding me back from purchasing these W6 subs is that I just found out these subs were discountined about 5 years ago from a local retailer. Don't know if that's true, but if it is, I'm not so sure if I want it. Correct me if this is misinformation. As far as sound, I'm not looking to break any windows if I have my bass so high. I'm just looking for something with decent bass that I could def feel when I'm driving. So I guess my question is, I'll stay away from the MBQ subs but within JL if these W6 subs are worth the money since there is a newer version of it. Also, can you explain to me the difference between a ported box and a sealed box? I'm about to purchase a sealed box from another memeber but didn't know there's much of difference. He's selling a box for 2 12inchsub btw. Thanks in advance

Either way I would get JL's over just about any sub made. If you are getting these new, get the JL12W3 or W3V2's. If you are not custom installing them, get them in the H.O Wedge box. It fit perfectly in my first gen CL and it hits clean and hard.
