massive 6x9 crapness

i just installed my alpine type r 6x9's in the rear deck. ive got a 98 tl and they sound like shit. the bass is there and the treble is clear but when they hit its just bad. i cant tell if its the deck rattling or if the speakers are bad. i installed polks in my front doors and i thought the front passenger speaker was defective but it ended up being the foam baffle i installed getting in the way. any tips on the back speakers? is it because their not broken in yet? i wish i was exxagerating...but it just sounds terrible. please help

how are you powering the rear speakers? If they are on a stock headunit, or an aftermarket headunit, its most likely they don't have enough power in the deck to power those speakers under a big load. This happened to me with my diamond audio 6x9 i had back in my other car powered by a stock deck claiming 50x4 but thats peak, they sounded great till the bass hit then they sounded like crap.

I suggest you get an amp, doesn't even have to be a big one, like a 50x2 or something to power the 6x9's at least if not all your speakers adn that should solve the problem. Unless you arleady are powering the 6x9 by an amp then i would think the 6x9 are defective.

yeah i thought my headunit would have powered my 6x9's it was a clarion 50x4 so the rms was around the same as yours, but alas it wasn't enough juice for the diamond audio. The higher quality compents you get the more juice they require such as your alpines

looking at the specs of the Alpine Type-R SPR-69LP the sensitivity is 89db, lower the snesitivity the more power you area going to need but the nicer and more accurate they will sound. I think the sensitivity on my 6x9 where like 90 or 91 and i still needed an amp to power them correctly at peak times. Its definatly worth looking into an amp, you will hear a world of difference in clarity and performance from all your speakers once you do.

If u are using deck power you should stick to the Alpine Type S or some Polk DBs.

I just got some alpine type R 6x9, powered by an RF P4004 and I think they still sound like shit. ..I was hoping because I was using my stock headunit...hopefully when I get a deck they will sound much better...I don't like that fake bass they put out, like they don't thump but they make this weird noise...in my opinion I don't like them.....I think I want to put some jl back there....In the front I have jl xr components...now I love them

turns out i had faulty speaker wiring. if you use top notch wire with gold plated terminals you will be good to go. my bass hits hard. its gonna hit even harder with the 4ch infinity amp i just picked up. word.

i was gonna say check your wiring and also the clearance on the rear speaker... the 1st gen's speaker grill sits low, so your tweeter cannot protrude very far.. was difficult for me to find a good 3-way 6X9...

glad you discovered your mistake... now,
