Making Custom Sub Box
Making Custom Sub Box
Well I got a quote from a shop and they wanted $200 to make a box. I said fock that. So I decided to make the box myself. However, I do not have the first clue as to what needs to be done. I took some measurements and what not and I have come up with the following:
LxDxH = 20" x 12" x 13"
I plan on using 5/8" Medium Density Fiberboard. So the total interior volume comes out to 2368.36cu in. (hope i did the math right) I will cut out a hole for a 10" sub on one face. I will drill nails in every 4 inches along with sealant in the interior of the box.
What do you guys think? Is that enough/too much volume for a sealed box? I plan on mounting a single amp(speaker amp) on the back side of the box and another amp(mono amp for the sub) on top of the box. This will help with the limited space I have to work with. The sub will be facing the back of the car.

http://www.polkaudio.com/car/toolbox...nstruction.php this is a good tutorial on the basics of making a box.
3 things that come to mind
When you're putting screws on the edges or corners of the MDF make sure you put pilot holes. MDF has a tendencey of cracking.
Make sure the box is fully air tight. Use silicone sealant on the edges of the inside of the box.
Check out your sub's specifications it should tell u exactly how much volume you need.

I just read the sub specs and it said to have a sealed volume of 0.75 cu ft. So im over by like 0.6 cu ft. So I now changed the dimensions to: 12" x 12" x 12".
btw, thanks for that great link!
werd, just build it to spec, and make sure to use lots of sealant and screws, but seal the box and cut the hole for the sub and let it sit for 24 hours, the sealant can give off fumes that will eat away the cone of your subs
