Looking for replacement HU info (2nd gen)
Looking for replacement HU info (2nd gen)
I've seen plenty of people posting about replacing their HU in a 2nd gen. Some of you found a dash kit, but I've not been able to find one anyplace.
So before I go out and spend 25K+ on a used CL, probably a 2001, I want to find out if I can actually replace the HU and not have it look like garbage. The wiring and speakers are no problem, I'm more interested in seeing how it looks. Hopefully I can get 2 DIN sized units in there so I can have both my MP3 player and CD deck.
Pictures would be great.
Thanks

I can help you buy selling you my headunit that I had shortly before I traded my car for my CLS and it was great

Head units I've got.
a basic JVC HU - just for the radio really.
an Empeg MP3 player. It's a standard sized DIN unit, holds about 5000 tunes.
But even if I go out and buy a double DIN HU, the CL stereo is strange shaped right? It's trapezoid. If I stick a double DIN stereo in there, it won't fit right, It will have spaces all around the sides where you can see inside the dash.

HU esthetics
I've been contemplating the same thing and the esthetics is the big thing holding me back from replacing the HU. I had an idea though and wanted to see if anyone else has tried it. If you get a double DIN HU could you fill in some of the gaps with the OEM wood dash kit that matches the interior wood grain? I'm sure some trimming would be involved, but it might look a hell of a lot better than some of the ABS plastic some stereo places have suggested so far. What do you think?
