looking for AVC-RGB1 replacement
looking for AVC-RGB1 replacement
Hi everyone,
I'm going to do the navi->dvd conversion on my car, and I can't get my hands on a much-needed part -- the Pioneer AVC-RGB1. Do any of you know of a replacement part for this unit, either from Pioneer or another manufacturer?
Thanks,
Dave

I have a few modified kits left if you are interested. Email ron@streeteffectz.com for more info.

both audio and video. they use an fm modulator though. he can tap directly in but he said it'd cost an extra $350 for the part. he already did one in an mdx and said the sound is not bad at all. obviously i'm not looking for dts or dolby digital but as long as there is not noise or static it's all good. not too sure if they use a switch or not, i would think so, but gonna ask when i do it.

Gabe: I will tell you the truth, the audio through the fm-modulator kind of sounds like crap. Its got this hissing sound, even if i turn the treble all the way DOWN. I don't think it will matter if you just gonna run a PS2. I am watching DVD's and the sound is killing me.
Jeff: remember we talked about the sony unit that can be used to tap in at the stock amp. Do you remember the model number? I am interested in giving it a try!
That's just my oppinion from my experience with the conversion.

Here's a link to the sony switch I'm using to tap directly into the factory amp. Costs $49.99 on Crutchfield. I don't know where that $350 number that was thrown around earlier came from. That's one hell of a profit margin. Or called 'screw the guy who doesn't know' mentality.
Sony XA-39II
You must have a DVD player with a headphone output (otherwise the sound level is too low) or run it through some kind of line amplifier.
Your DVD source must also have a volume control because this switch bypasses the headunit so you won't be able to control the volume otherwise.
I am using a PS2 (no headphone out, no volume control) and have it run through an AudioControl 4.1 to boost the signal and give me a volume control.
It sounds AWESOME. Absolutely no hiss... just plain clear sound.

I was wondering if you (or anyone else that knows) would be so kind as to answer a few questions.
1. Where would you mount this unit (trunk, under the pass seat)? I have a dvd player in the trunk and want to get sound without using the crappy rf modulator.
2. Let's assume I use the head unit as input 1 and the dvd sound as input 2. Would I use the blue/white as the output to the amp remote for the head unit and the blue/black as the output for the dvd sound to the amp remote?
3. Which color wire is the amp remote? I understand that it is in the trunk, near the jack.
4. Is the sound perfectly clear and clean or do I still need to get a ground wire isolator?
5. Where did you wire everything? Most importantly, how did you get the head unit signal to be RCA when it hits this unit?
6. Can you wire the dvd player and this unit from crutchfield in the same splice?
Sorry for all the questions but I am new at this but I'm really excited to learn anything your can offer. Everything is for a 2002 cl-s with a stock system, blaupunkt ME-1 (rca outputs), and starvision 7" monitor.

I mounted mine in the back, next to the stock amplifier. It is behind the wall in the trunk, so you can't see it. I ran a switch to the front under the dash to control it.

I can't remember how I wired it. I do have to switch it manually though. I'm sure there is some way to wire it where it would be automatic, if the dvd player you're using has some kind of turn on lead coming out of it.
3. Which color wire is the amp remote? I understand that it is in the trunk, near the jack.
I don't remember this either, but if you do a search for 'stereo schematic' you should find a link it a diagram that tells you. It might even be in the FAQ page.
4. Is the sound perfectly clear and clean or do I still need to get a ground wire isolator?
Keep in mind that I added some other equipment, including another amp and a sub, and I did need to use a ground loop isloator. I would try it first, and if you get any annoying noise, then go to radio shack and drop the $15 bucks.

You will need to splice RCA plugs onto the wires coming from the stock head unit. It is easy to get to them just before they enter the stock amp, in the trunk, behind the wall, next to the jack. You will find the appropriate wire colors in that schematic. Be sure to keep the wires straight, otherwise it won't sound too good.
6. Can you wire the dvd player and this unit from crutchfield in the same splice?
I'm not exactly sure what you are asking here... care to rephrase?
Hope this helps. ( I cleaned out my inbox if you want to PM me again...)
