Which location is the best to install an amp ?
Hi folks,
A few amp/sub installation questions from a newbie.
I plan to install an amp (RF 200M) and a sub this weekend. If I don't want to mount the amp against the sub box, what other places in the trunk can I mount the amp so that it will still look clean ?
Second question, if I tap the preamp line before the stock amp to feed my new amp, can I disconnect the power to stock amp since I am not using the stock amp anymore ?
Many many thanks in advance.

You can always add a compartment onto the box and mount it in there...assuming you also mount a fan for ventilation. Second, you can mount it along the walls and add MDF carpeted sides to the trunk to flush it in. Aside from that I mean...it's all a personal preference...
And yeah you can disconnect the whole harness feeding the stock amp if you'd like to...but I mean...why? The stock amp is drawing negligible power because the field effect transistors in it don't draw power when it's not pushing a load. Disconnecting it from the stock sub should be sufficient.

Hey man np...that's what I'm here for
. Or at least that's why I stay here!
You can get MDF at any big hardware chain...Lowe's or Home Depot are my two biggies. They can cut pieces for you...but realize it won't be exact...like +/- an inch...they're not precise people...so make sure to get it cut a few inches bigger than you need (and of course they only cut squares). Also...since you don't need much MDF...you MAY be able to get some for free...I have been known to go up to the Home Depot guy and ask him if he has any 20" by 20" scrap squares...because they sell those things in like $20 10 foot sheets...and I can get em for free...just a suggestion.
Good luck bud!
