Just got my new system installed...

Picked up my car from Tweeter about an hour ago, and boy is it nice to have some bump in the trunk again! Just got the following installed:
JL VR650 CSi
JL 250/1
JL e4300
JL 10 w3v2 w/ported box
Monster Cable XLN RCA's
Lightning Audio 1 farad cap w/digital top

I am really amazed at how loud the single ten is with just the 250/1, and the components are nice and clear. Can anyone tell me any problem areas for rattling to look out for in the first gens? so far the only thing I have noticed is my license plate (big surprise). thanks.

It's all about the box man. Sounds like a nice lil rig.

It's pretty easy to fix that plate rattle:
1. Spend $15 on the Dynamat piece that fits behind your tag.
2. Round up a few rubber washers. Put one under each of the top screws, double sticky tape the other three in the middle and each bottom corner. There shouldn't be any play in the tag.
3. Fuck the tag, take that shit off. :P

I forgot to mention one thing that kinda pissed me off...when i got there today, the guy goes "Oh, i didnt know you were getting a ported box...you got a sealed one now." So now I have to go back on friday to have them switch the sub from the sealed box to the ported one.

So if I am surprised by how loud the single ten is in the sealed box, I am hoping to be blown away once it's in the ported box.

proaudio22...thanks for the tips on the license plate.

They make some kick ass speakers...but you guys would be singing a different tune if you knew who's design was inside the amps...

Note: not saying the amps are bad, Xtant makes kick ass amps. JL prob did the smart thing here using a proven design. Look how many amps they've sold...

ok..I remember someone telling me that before...the way you said "if you knew who's design was inside the amps..." before made it sound like you were gonna say something like they were designed by someone really bad like the Nazi's or, Saddam Hussein, or even worse...Canadians.

Haha no, that did sound evil didn't it? Haha yes Saddam designed them from his styrofoam bunker.

JL is smart...and that's why they are successful.

I wouldnt be surprised if saddam designed them, becasue we all know that nothing livens up a donkey cart like a nice strong
Class-D and a pair of 12's

the best part would be when Saddam looked up from his donkey cart and flashed the "west side" hand sign.

Why does JL still use styrofoam surround on their woofers?
That's the only reason I don't have them.

Wouldn't rubber be the way to go?

its not a styrofoam, its foam and i think i read that rubber woofers are not as reliable as foam. since rubber can crack from weather flux

JL was designed in the state of florida by an installer/designer that worked for sound advice. my current installer worked with the guy that designed the Jl amps. both guys were district managers for sound advice. true secrets of how these amps were designed should not be released to the public.

That's what I meant.
Foam.

Rubber is more durable than foam in every way.

sorry, got completed misinformed.....

the guy was not an installer and did not work for sound advice, my installer worked with the guy but not in a shop. the guy worked for Xtant and JL bought his designs and him to work with JL. Jeff scoon(sp?) was the CEO of PPI. he was an engineer. the Jl amps were first manufactured in the MTX factories becasue of the high demand for JL and MTX had the biggest production facilities.

thats about it.
